advancing to a world without hope ...

Before I became an atheist I used to wonder if that was his plan as far as the poor, the homeless, drug addicts, starving children, etc., that maybe they or their souls agreed to sacrifice and come to earth in order to give other people the opportunity to in some way redeem themselves or become a more caring spiritual person by allowing people the opportunity to help them. But it still can't get me past the cruel dictator called "god" in the bible. I just can't worship and or praise someone/thing that is like that. So it doesn't matter if he exists or not, I don't really care. I don't believe he exists, and wouldn't "follow" him if he did (at least now that I'm enlightened :) . Plus, it sure su*ks for the one who has to play out the life of being poor, homeless, etc. Not only that but ...enter judgment. Instead of people helping where and when they can, so many 'find' that, especially when it comes to their wallet, it's those peoples own fault they are in that position, or call it tough love, or any other excuse or judgment they can come up with rather than getting up off their wallet or their **** to just simply help other people. So, no, I wouldn't call anything coming from him a "gift".

How would anyone advance humanity as an atheist in a way that they couldn't as a Christian (I assume we're talking the Abrahamic God, at least)? More free time on Sundays?

Sure it's possible. But it seems paradoxical. Atheism doesn't strike me as something people find with God's help, know what I mean?

It seems to me that anyone with the critical reasoning skills to be an atheist by choice would advance the world just as easily if they were religious. However, you're suggesting that it isn't a choice but an ignorance, a blindness. Almost akin to a "gift" of blind faith, the gift of blind faithlessness. Would these atheists advance the world?

Interesting question.

I read your initial question with great interest, wondering how you were going to swing a god who grants atheism in one question, with both presumably true, and have it work.....

So in your question, there really is a god, right? And god grants atheism to those of us who are going to advance humanity, presumably in scientific ways, by making it impossible for atheists to buy into the BS of religion?

hmmm, perhaps, but I still don't believe in one. Not the god of Christians anyway.

I can't say I like it. It would mean that god realizes that religion is detrimental to advancement, but invents it anyway, for the more boneheaded among us. Why would god have it at all? Why not just have everyone hip to the fact that there is one (in your question, this is a given...) but make it so that believing in one does not require people to disregard science and logic at the same time. Have science and god be compatible.

God can surely do that since, in your question, She does exists.

what an interesting twist of logic, having to accept that there is a god in order to answer your question as written.

It's called cause and effect - the domino effect - you know a butterfly flapped it's wing and caused a tornado in Japan (or something like that anyway) Nevertheless, in order to believe in a divine being, you have to believe in a first cause and that cause can only be attributed to God. Any scientific argument which attempts to explain the origins of the universe without the presence of God can be attacked using this first cause argument. For example, the big bang theory - many think that the bang was caused by loose particles and gases and when they reacted it caused an explosion which created the universe. Ok - this is logical enough - however, what caused the gases? Peace xx

I agree this is an interesting thought. well allow me to give you an analogy..

A person that has a certain type of personality end up having no social life. He lived a different kind of life than usual people and with that he had experiences that others don't have, he had his own realizations and was shaped through it. It may be unexpectedly, with all his hardships and everything he learned in that life he will soon come out as an individual with his own unique capabilities that may stand out among men.

We never knew of God's ways. But apparently we had an idea. He can shape up everything in this universe, he can use men as instruments to his plans. He is BEYOND the human intellect. We truly never knew. So to answer your question, I think it is.

Dear Don, No, But its more than possible that there is a force of which is seeking to decive some that he might divert them from the way of truth. this is why the Bible calls satan the deciever, a Liar and the father of lies. If he can simply distract you from God, then he knows he has you in the palm of his hand, and he knows he can keep one more soul from being redeemed. The Good news it aht God has given us more than enough evidence for his existence and who he is and what he is about. and he revealed himself in the most amazing way through Jesus. since God is perfect, he demands perfection, and thats what he will require on the day which we will face him and give acount. even if we have told one lie, or stolen one thing, or used his name in vain once, we have broken His Law, and becuase he is perfect, he wil execute his Justice and every man and woman would end up facing hell. Now, the good news is that when Jesus died he took the punishment on our behalf, he did this because God is a Loving God who does not wish that any should perish, but all should come too know him. we can be forgiven and granted everlasting life, by confesing and forsaking our sin and trusting fully in Him.
God Bless

It would absurd to accept the logical conclusion. For how would atheist advance humanity by not believing in God? Would it be on the field of scientific discovery? But believing in God and discovering new frontiers in science are not mutually exclusive.

For what end would the so called advancement by the atheist be? Wouldn't all things end with God as the believers say?

It is simply irrational to accept your proposition

I am an atheist, but i will give it a try and analyze it using the theist view of the world.

Not really. Some people like to call themselves atheists -and i have not a single reason to assert that they lie- who behave bad and don't advance humanity. Besides that, what you expose would imply that we all thought the very same way -i don't mean we all should achieve perfection, I guess you got what i mean- and sometimes we are not even close on our ideals and/or behavior.

See ya!

Would a person without knowledge of a particular area be able to advance humanity to its highest level? This question assumes that God exists and therefore is a knowable person. Atheism would then be a complete denial of a key part of life.
