Taiwan is not independent. In reality, Taiwan is occupied territory of the USA.

Taiwan has not been part of China since it was ceded by the Qing Dynasty in 1895.

General MacArthur sent Chiang Kai-shek to Taiwan to accept the surrender of Japanese troops. The surrender ceremonies were held on Oct. 25, 1945. The military occupation of Taiwan began after the surrender ceremonies were completed.

In the post-war San Francisco Peace Treaty, Japan renounced the sovereignty of Taiwan, but no receiving country was specified. Under such an arrangment, Taiwan remains under the jurisdiction of the principal occupying power (the United States of America) as an interim status condition.

There has been no change in Taiwan's status to date.

The ROC on Taiwan is (1) a subordinate occupying power, beginning Oct. 25, 1945, and (2) a government in exile, beginning mid-December 1949. The United States is the principal occupying power.

At some point in history long ago, other parts of Asia were Chinese territory -- for example, Mongolia. All of Mongolia used to be Chinese territory. Mao Zedong was upset that Joseph Stalin would not grant him Outer Mongolia to become Chinese territory. Mao had to be satisfied with Inner Mongolia instead.

Taiwan, for all practical purposes, is a country to itself. It rules itself, holds its own elections, etc. The Qing Dynasty even tried to sell it to the Dutch once, but the Dutch government refused to buy it.

Phillipines? I don't think so.

Okinawa is ruled by Japan, but it is culturally and linguistically (Ryukyu languages) different from both Japan and China.

Certain parts of Manchuria in northeast China have actually been claimed by Korea to be Korean territory.

well, I m from China, i think i know the exact answer to your question. Taiwan belongs to China, it's not an independent country, we all Chinese people and we belong to one country. Philippines is an independent country, i dont know where u got the information that misleads u, Okinawa belongs to japan, which is located in the east of China.
