I checked my bank statement the other day and found someone had used my credit card number to sign up for several services that provide tips to gamblers. I contacted the merchants who charged my card and one of them provided me with the email address that was used to sign up for the service. Essentially, I have the email address of the person who took my credit card. Is there any way to figure out who took my card? If it is possible, can I find out who it is, or do the police need to get involved? Also, does anyone know how to contact Yahoo? They are the email provider of the theif and may have more information about the person who created the email account. Thank you for your answers

First, cancel your credit card, and find out what you need to do to put a fraud alert on your social security number, in case they try to take out additional cards in your name. Secondly, take the information to the police, and alert Yahoo Customer Service. It is possible they can track the thief, but I would not count on it.

i will basically speculate, because of the fact I even have 4 hypotheses and no thank you to objective them. #a million they could be merchandising the stuff - the two straight away, or via commissions on a rev-proportion like Amazon. they might purchase the stuff and make financial company on the ten% kickback from the vendor. #2 they could be attempting to construct a favorable historic previous with the vendor so a metamorphosis-of-delivery handle with the provider provider isn't a crimson-flag. they could the two substitute the delivery handle at purchase time, or as a metamorphosis of handle after the acquisition. #3 it may desire to be somebody on your community who planned to fetch the stuff out of the doorstep. they could have intercepted your card information from a cordless telephone call with a scanner, or they could have a crossed telephone line. they could have a superzoom digital camera that enable them to study your card on your kitchen counter, or they could have a cable modem interior an identical block and are examining your (insecure) digital mail. (gee, that is frightening). #4 in line with probability it fairly is a Black Hat who intentionally desires to tip off the credit card company to a breach in risk-free practices - doing undesirable to make an excellent factor. you could desire to have the skill to objective #a million or #2 via working with the provider provider, #3 via putting a digital camera on the doorstep. i won't be able to think of of a attempt for #4.
