The more technical jobs may require longer enlistments 4-6 years. My job requires 4 years initial, and Navy Nuclear reguire 6 years initial. This is because a Su STS has 1 year of school before getting to a boat, and Nuke has about 2 years of school.

You can either go to www.military.com or any branch site like www.goarmy.com or www.1800goguard.
Regardless you might due 2 to 4 years active but you will do a toltal of 8 the rest of your time will be in the inactive reserve but they do have a chance of calling you back in the service so be aware of that.
You would need to take an ASVAB test and based on that depends on what kind of jobs you will be offered. The more technical the job usually requires a longer enlistment.
Good luck to you.

all contracts are for EIGHT YEARS> how long you are on AD is dependent on what job you pick. the remainder will be spent in the Reserves or IRR.

there are almost zero 2 year AD contracts/ the vast majority are 4 years, with a few 3, 5 or 6 years as well.
