People need to eat meat to be healthy
Killing the animals in the proper way so they do not suffer and then cooking the meat properly is important.

Purposes of Qorbanot
Contrary to popular belief, the purpose of qorbanot is not simply to obtain forgiveness from sin. Although many qorbanot have the effect of expiating sins, there are many other purposes for bringing qorbanot, and the expiatory effect is often incidental, and is subject to significant limitations.

The different types of sacrifices:
Olah: Burnt Offering : An olah is completely burnt on the outer altar; no part of it is eaten by anyone.

Zebach Sh'lamim: Peace Offering: A representative portion of the offering is burnt on the altar, a portion is given to the kohanim, and the rest is eaten by the offerer and his family; thus, everyone gets a part of this offering.

Chatat: Sin Offering: A few special chatatot could not be eaten, but for the most part, for the average person's personal sin, the chatat was eaten by the kohanim.

Asham: Guilt Offering : An asham was eaten by the kohanim.

Minchah: A representative piece of the offering was burnt on the fire of the altar, but the rest was eaten by the kohanim.

Something had to be sacrificed in atonement for peoples' sins. The wages of sin are death. If nothing was sacrificed, then the people would have to die. This is why Jesus came down. When people in the Old Testament sacrificed, the offering had to be perfect and unblemished. Jesus was a spotless Lamb. Therefore, He was the perfect sacrifice, and He fit the needs--He covered our sin with His blood. In your context, the term "pleased" implies that God liked the sacrifice because of the fact that it was killed and it smelled like meat. You're implying that God loved to kill. This is not how you should interpret "please." God was pleased that the sacrifice was being made and the sin was forgiven. The people were repentant, so God was satisfied. If anyone else believes that God is pictured as brutally as you made Him, I will pray for them.

Funny that God said this about sacrifices
I will not rebuke you for your sacrifices
Or your burnt offerings,
Which are continually before Me.
9 I will not take a bull from your house,
Nor goats out of your folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is Mine,
And the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the mountains,
And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.

12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you;
For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.
13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls,
Or drink the blood of goats?

Animals (and other food items, plants included) were often offered to God as gifts. The destruction of the item offered ensured that the item was actually "given" to God, and not held back by the worshipper.

Sacrifices were offered for any number of purposes; the forgiveness of sins was only one reason. In that case, though, God was accepting the animal's death as a stand-in for the guilty person (so they wouldn't have to die for their sins). The animal's death acted as a temporary atonement for the person's soul (which God really wanted to have mercy on).

The need for sin offerings came to an end with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

It can't be ungodly, as it is what God required, do you mean inhuman, as God is far from being human, He is God and because life was in the blood, he required shedding of blood, and it had to be a pure animal, with no sickness or disease. I think it would be more human to take a lamb or goat then die yourself, wouldn't you agree ?

According to the Bible, God like the 'pleasing odour' of burning flesh.

I guess there are so many wars going on nowadays that he gets enough frying children to satisfy him.

The Bible also says this:
"I HATE, I SCORN your festivals, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies, when you bring me burnt offerings...your oblations, I do not accept them and I do not look at your communion sacrifices of fat cattle. SPARE ME the din of your chanting, let me hear none of your strumming on lyres,

but let JUSTICE FLOW LIKE WATER, and UPRIGHTNESS like a never-failing stream!" - Amos 5:21-24

What do you think God really wanted?

Peace to you.

There has to be a blood offering for sin, that is why Jesus had to come to earth and die for your sin as a one time offering for sin. The animals that were sacrificed were perfect and without blemish just like Jesus.

God did not create animals in his image. Like many of his creations, animals were created to help those whom he breathed life into. Do you consider the sacrifices of Ramadan unholy as well? All cultures have certain traditions, and this is one that ended when his own son was killed.
