The Charismatic Catholics are a small segment of the Roman Catholic Church. They differ from most Roman Catholics in that they take literally that the spiritual gifts, designatedin Acts 2 and in I Corinthians still apply to today. These include the "sign gifts" prophesying, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues, laying on of hands for healing, word of wisdom and other spiritual gifts.

Sandy, I know a wonderful group of Charismatic Catholics. This is the difference I have noticed: They utilize the Holy Spirit in worship, praise and in prayer. They read scriptures much more than the traditional Roman Catholic.
They place their faith in Jesus, for healings and such. They do not pray rote prayers....they speak to God from their hearts! Some speak in tongues while others have other gifts such as interpretation.
Usually, the Charismatics are not accepted "fondly" in the Roman Catholic church but, their faith is strong enough to withstand any tongue lashings which may occur.
I hope my personal knowledge can help you to understand.
God Bless

WOW. You kind of bit off a little more than you needed to with that one. Why not start with something easy like the difference between Shia and Sunni Muslims! LOL Catholics abandoned the use of Scriptures as their spiritual compass hundreds of years ago. That's the real issue. They rely heavily on church tradition and man-made teachings rather than the Bible. Thus, things like Mary worship, Purgatory, Transubstantiation arose. Protestant Christians left the Catholic church during the Reformation and went back to using just the Scriptures as the only compass by which the church is led. However, many denominations have splintered off since then whose differences are too many to go into detail. These denominations include: Baptists Methodists Presbyterian Lutheran Angilican/Espicopal Penecostal/Charismatic Church of God Church of Christ, etc.

Charismatic Catholics are more like Born-Again folks--very much into making a joyful noise unto the Lord, and their homilies are a lot more Born-Again sounding than the usual type of Catholic homily.
Charismatic anything is not my cup of tea.
Very Naughty Santa--LMAO!!! :D

Charismatic Renewal is a movement in the Catholic Church.
It just means that members manifest the gifts of the Spirit.
It's similar to the experience of Pentacostals.

The only difference is that the ones who say they are Charismatic have slipped into Pentecostalism-but they are still catholic.
