Is expensive Monster HDMI Cable worth it? For a Samsung 4071, 1080p LCD. 120 Hz refresh rate. $2,000 tv. $100 cable!?!?

Here is something I found on CNET that should help:

"In the store, you'll probably hear a salesperson tell you to get extra cables. That's because overpriced cables are one of the few areas where electronics stores can turn a big profit. In reality, cable quality matters very little, especially with digital cables such as HDMI. Since many stores don't even carry lower-priced cable alternatives, we recommend shopping for cables online and buying based on price from a vendor with a good return policy."

I hope I helped :]

It's really a question of what is something worth to you. Personally I find Monster stuff to be good quality, but WAY overpriced. That said, if you can get it cheap enough it's a good deal. Note that on a performance basis Phillips and Monster will both work exactly the same (at least for cable lengths under about 15' or so). Where there may be a difference is in the cosmetics/physical characteristics, such as colour, flexibility, strain relief at the connectors, conductor coating (e.g. gold). I would say, if you can get a Monster cable for $8 or $15 total go for it. But if you mean $8 or $15 MORE it (probably ... again personal preferences count) isn't worth it.

The signals are Digital so are very insensitive to the price of the cable.

Monoprice is good for really low prices. I have 4 of them feeding an HDMI switch for short runs.

But early HDMI had issues with runs over 15 ft so longer runs need slightly thicker wires and insulation. So I bought my ten foot cable from a place I trust: BlueJeans. It cost $38.

NO, it is not worth it. DO NOT buy an incredibly overprice Monster cable.

Just go there. They have hefty, excellent quality cables of any length and gauge. They are also very reasonably priced. Expect to pay between 5 and 20 bucks depending on which one you pick.

I have 2 and there awesome.

I would first try a $5 hdmi cable @ monoprice.com. The difference in picture quality is not as significant as the price difference would suggest.
