1. vodka or gin 2.how dry you want it[as little as a drop or 2 of vermouth or as much as 1/2 an ounce for a old time martini] 3.because martinis are almost all straight booze ask if there is a particular brand they prefer, your goal is to upsell them to a more premium brand[and more $]your boss will like that. as for olive vs onion martinis come with olives ;onions come in gibsons ,so that is a non question,if he wants on the rocks he will tell you, same as shaken or stired ,all are shaken very few are stired and if they want it stirred, they will say.couple other tips, dirty is with olive juice, burnt is with a few drops of scotch no vermouth, twist is with a lemon or lime skin with pulp and pith removed and skin twisted into glass releasing the oil in the skin, the 2 people who thumbs down me are clueless ,20 years exp. talks..ps.. hey i just noted we all got thumbs down what the hey

You shouldn't need to ask questions. If they order a martini without saying anything, they want a martini. It's up to the customer to tell you if they want it shaken, stirred, dry, etc.
