To follow the doctrine, procedures, and traditions of said religion. The word "Practice" is used because you are not expected to be perfect in following the rites of the religion.

well-it seems that man have been practicing different religions for a long time-guess they just have to keep doing it over and over again-that is what practicing a religion is---just my thoughts-smile and enjoy the night

"I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." -- Confucius .

The origin of the word "religion" I find intriguing.
I believe that it means to "re-read" (literal translation)
for example "lesen" in the German language means "to read"
re-lesen (re-ligion).

So what it means to me is to read and learn (the scriptures for example) and then try to remember them long enough to start applying the teachings in my life....Since I forget often and need constant reminding, there are certain things "built in" to religion to help me "remember to remember" ...things like going to Church every Sunday and hearing about what I should be doing or reading the scriptures and remembering what I should be doing...

Basicly, to register as a member, attend worship, & support.
It's the same sense of the word applied to doctors or lawyers.
