my nine year old cousin had terrible migrane headaches, and now for the past two days, he has gotten like mini attacks where he swallows his tongue and gets really stiff, and he can't remeber anything when he wakes up. does anyone know what it could be?

He's having a seizure. When this happens, let him curl into the fetal position and make sure NOTHING is in his mouth. Don't place spoons, or even your fingers into his mouth because he will bite them off if they wander into the wrong place. Just try to keep his air ways clear. He can't remember anything afterwards because his brain kinda shortcircuits. His mind's in sleep mode but his body's running a marathon. You can let him rest for a bit after his seizure, but make sure he's breathing! Put your ear to his mouth AFTER he relaxes his body and if you feel air brushing your ear, let him sleep for a few minutes <--- They need the rest, but if you are uncomfortable, you can wake him.
Try to make note of which direction of his eyes roll up into, how long the seizure lasts, and if YOU could recognize anything that indicated he was GOING to have a seizure. These are all things that the doctor whose treating him would probably like to know. Don't forget to mention the migrains either!!!

PS: If it looks like it's going to last for more than 4 minutes, call the amubulance: The kid can get brain damage after 5 minutes of seizing.
Good luck.

He may be having seizures, that's what it sounds like, but you can't swallow your tongue, it may just seem like that is what he's doing, but you really can't. There are different types of seizures, not just the grand mal type. It might be psychomotor (what they once called petit mal). Often a person will just stare for a period of time, and then not remember that short bout. There could be other neurological problems. He should really talk to a doctor about what is happening to him to get a better diagnosis.

TAKE YOUR COUSIN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

Given the migraines and the seizures, your cousin needs immediate medical attention in order to prevent further problems that may come from whatever is causing these problems. There are lots of possible causes, but, only a medical professional who is working directly with your cousin can determine the cause and/or what intervention is needed.

GO TONIGHT, DO NOT WAIT!

It is true that your tongue is the strongest muscle in the body, but I can't see that being a legit answer. Do you feel like you are pushing your tongue to your front teeth when you swallow!? It seems a little fishy to me, maybe they are just trying you to get your braces put back on for money? I would definitely go see another orthodontist, it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion!

oh no, dana, i'm so sorry to say your cousin might have a seizure. and it may be dangerous. So why not try paying the doctor a visit? I really don't want to scare you, but it may be life-threatening. Just make sure that he is breathing when these "attacks" happen. Sent him to the Emergency Room at once. And may God bless you.

He is definitely having seizures!! Get him to a doctor asap! He needs medical attention and may need meds or it may just be a short-term thing causing them! Either way he needs medical attention!

Possibly epilepsy. He can't swallow his toungue, as it is attached underneath. It will slide back, when he is on his back. Open his airway, which will help him breathe. You might also take a CPR course and be able to assist him.

Something he should go to the E.R. for immediately. Don't mess around with such serious symptoms.
