From my conversations with atheists, there doesn't seem to be an "average" one. (There doesn't seem to be an "average" Christian, either.)
Some generalities about atheist vs. Christian social and political attitudes might be made, but there would be many exceptions, some of which would be surprising and unexpected.
People are just people, deep down, I think. People are basically good, and basically want the same things - a happy life, family, friends, a decent place for their children to grow up, freedom, opportunity . . . it's sad that so much must divide us.

The average atheist is just that... average. The typical atheist is exactly the same as Christians and anyone else on the planet. They are not any more or less intelligent, nor open-minded, nor free-thinking, nor logical than anyone of faith. What's amusing is that they don't seem to realize how hypocritical they are when they bash Christians for their faith to build up their own self-worth.

As an atheist for 20 years and a Christian for 15 and therefore having been on both sides of the ecumenical fence, I would say the average atheist is a good, law-abiding, tax-paying, caring, generous person...like your average Christian.
The few on this website who spend their time making sport of tearing down Christians are merely bitter, insecure, pathetic individuals and are in the minority of the atheist group... just like those few Christians on here who gleefully tell atheists they're going to hell.
Happily, both malignant narcissistic atheists and malignant narcissistic Christians are in the minority of their respective groups.

A person who has in most cases made a more thorough study of the religious tracts than those who continue to practice archaic and dogmatic rituals and childish totally unrealistic moral systems which have no basis in reasoned thought at all. A person who is 'moral' for his/her own reasons
,,,who can look out at the universe and wonder, what it is that they are seeing is there really anything out there to see is out there out there at all. far more interesting than an old man and his kid playing with puppets and hitting them with a big stick if they play up,,,, oh you meant christian ,,,,ooopps tee hee

A lot of the people who call themselves atheist on r&s are not atheist at all, most are just people brought up in church unwillingly, and angry at parents, God, preachers, Christians and so on, and then they seek a way to kill the concience of God, but not serving God is not the same as being an atheist. I'm sure their are some true ateist on here who havent been brought up in church or by religious parents, who have simply been indoctrinated by worldly agenda and thus evolution theory. But rest asured that the magority on r&s know that their is a God, they just hate him, and try to kill his existance, but no need to fear them.

Atheists are just people who have their own beliefs (which most depends on science). As a Christian, I think that they are mistaken. But I am not against them, since all people make mistakes, and they have their own reasons for their belief. But their mistake isn't just any mistake, its a very very big mistake which might bring them to hell. I will pray for them to bring their faith.

... tired of getting picked on and attacked for not believing in God.
Trust me, i DO believe in God, and i know full well 'religious' people can be the worst! *rolls eyes* sheeesh. Experience!
I wish that no man was an athiest, but every man has the right to think for himself, and believe what he wants to. Just because i believe in God, doesn't mean that someone else has to. (i wish they did!) but they don't have to.
♥
I'm a christian.

I would say lost and misinformed. I say this because atheist don't understand but it takes more faith to believe in science than in God. It hurts to know that there are people in this world that don't know the peace that comes along with knowing Jesus.

Let's not stereotype people. All kinds of people are atheist, just as all kinds are theists.
