I am wanting to prepare some meals ahead of time. I have some glass dishes which it is ok to use them for baking in the oven. I am wondering if I could freeze these containers in the freezer, with the food in them?

Yes, if they are Pyrex. Thaw in fridge, then set out at room temp 30 min or so, before baking.

You can also pop the frozen food out of the pan and slip it into a zipper bag. This frees up your glass dish, and you can slip the frozen casserole back into the glass pan to thaw and bake.

The reason they would burst is not leaving enough space in top of the container to allow for the expansion. I freeze in canning jars all the time. I have never had a problem.

Yes, I freeze casseroles in glass pans a lot, wrapped in aluminum foil. I agree with the people who have said to thaw them in the refrigerator, then set out to bring up to room temperature for 30 min. before putting it in the oven.

You can but don't go from the freezer to the oven or vise versa... you'll crack the glass... make sure you leave time for thawing and cooling down!

This is TRUE FACT, I've seen it happen a lot:

All the other answers are true.
But if you cover container very tightly (like a jar) it will ALWAYS burst.
'Cause liquid expands as it freezes.

I don't believe that would pose any problems. I doubt the glass would shatter.
