Okay, so I'm not the girly girl that many people are, and I definately DON'T like to dress up. Would a nice pair of jeans and a t-shirt be okay? If not could you suggest something to wear that wouldn't be too girly?

Okay, so I'm going to Juvinile court to witness for a fight that happened at our school. I don't very well know if the kid that is pressing charges even has a prosecutor.

Hi -
when you go to a court of law, you should always dress appropriately. You do not need to wear a dress, but a pair of slacks, no jeans and a nice top, no t-shirt and no sneakers and definitely no flip-flops :-) nice sandals are fine....
Remember to speak slowly, clearly and keep your answers short. Do not offer any additional information, keep your emotions in check and be completely honest. Be respectful of the judge and the lawyers. And if you are asked something you do not understand, just let the lawyer know you do not understand the question. Do not feel you have to answer all the questions, if you do not know or are not sure, just say so.
Good luck -
T.

Jeans and a t-shirt are not appropriate to wear to a courtroom especially if you are a witness. If you don't own a nice suit then wear a simple pair of dress slacks and a nice blouse or sweater, nothing suggestive. If you want to be a recognized and believable witness, dress the part. Don't look like you just got out of bed and rolled into court or on your way to the club.

No, that is not proper attire for court. You need to put on dress slacks and a nice blouse or sweater or jacket. Even not being a "girly girl", you still need to look presentable as a witness. Court is serious business and you must look business-like and have that demeanor too.

I would NOT recommend wearing jeans and a tee-shirt. Even though you're 14, as a witness, you have the responsibility to the party on whose behalf you are a witness to present as mature an image as possible.
No dress is necessary. Wear dress pants and a nice shirt. Low-key makeup and tidy hair and absolutely nothing sexy or revealing.
Trust me on this.

Do you have a nice pair of pants, black preferably, wear the pants, do you have a short blazer type jacket? wear the jacket over the t-shirt, otherwise do not wear just a t-shirt. If you do not have a jacket, wear a nice crisp white blouse? This is not like going to school, it is more like attending church services on Sunday.....All the men lawyers wear suits and ties, and the mostly the woman lawyers wear skirted suits.....The judge wears a black gown...even though you're just a teen, please do not wear jeans and a t-shirt.

WEll if it was me i'd wear some grey or black pants and a "nice" top but a nice pair of pants and a nice shirt would probably do....
PLUS jewlery is a little unneccesary...you'll only have to take it off in the metal detector

What to wear: Slacks, Woven shirts, skirts (mid thigh to ankle length, stockings, pumps, nice boots, conservative make up and jewelry.
What NOT to wear: Jeans, shorts, graphic tee's, halter/tube tops (unless you are wearing a jacket over), hoodies, athletic wear, sneakers, tennis shoes, excessive make up.
Remember... you are going to be in court, not at some dance social. Be honest with everyone, especially with the judge.

"should" is one of those things.
If ever you're going to do the girly-girl thing, court is it.
If you are going to testify, you should definitely do a skirt or pants suit. Wearing jeans shows disrespect to our legal system.
And there are already enough people doing that.

This is what most business type women like to wear to court in America. http://www.made-in-china.com/image/2f0j00mRpEMWTBaQSkM/Lady-Suit-Jacket-Pants-Skirts.jpg
I don't think that's to girly. It's official to. Whether you be a teenager or not.
