Stay Agnostic until something feels right. You can't FORCE religion onto your life, that wouldn't be right.

I've often wondered why an X catholic would want to turn to another sub set of Catholicism.
Whatever you lost as a Catholic you won't find as a Protestant.
You say , "I need a supreme being to carry on."
Why?
Once you realize that you can believe in a Supreme Being without anyone's permission, or approval means you can write your own doctrines.
When seeking another doctrine is giving your allegiance to
another person such as yourself that takes the time to write, organize and publish their own beliefs.
Amy McPherson, Joseph Smith, the Scientology L Ron Hubbard, all started with their own belief system

Never listen to someone who tells you *what* to think. Instead, take advice on how to draw your own conclusion. You'll never have any confidence in an opinion that is in your head but belongs to someone else.
I suggest that you relax first of all. Having been through it, I know how distressing a loss of faith can be. However, you will be just fine - promise. Let your worldview form naturally and don't rush it.
While you are in this process, I suggest that you learn as much as you can and ask all the questions you can. Read, read, read... read from all sides, and look at everything objectively, without bias. Remember that the truth is not afraid of scrutiny... nor is it dependent on emotion.
Good luck.

Angeline:
I understand where you are coming from - I have several ex-Catholic friends who tell me that they were quite disatisfied with the Catholic Church as well, and after later 'becoming a Christian' (their words, not mine) they believed that Christianity was the answer, but that they did not find true Christianity in the Catholic Church.
My only advice for such a short forum as this is that you should pick a religion you believe to be TRUE. Do not pick one because it feels good (because, honestly, if I were going to pick a religion on that basis, I wouldn't have picked Christianity). I firmly believe that if you are willing to give an honest evaluation of Christianity, you will find it to be true.

Go straight to the source, God Himself, not religion. You're right that neither one of the two previous choices should feel right because they are not. There is no one greater or more real than God, your creator. The truth can be found in His Words in the Bible. I recommend the NIV version, for easier reading. No one can or will love you like God either. Sounds like you need to rededicate your life to God on a more personal level. You will soon discover His amazing, gracious, merciful, and extrvagant love for you. You could search the universe and never find a religion with the power of love like His!

Try going atheist for a bit and simply study many religions. You'll get the truth soon. No matter what religion will always be wrong.
Edit:
Or stay agnostic and study many religions.

Although honeslty you'll probably go back to being a catholic, you should do a little research and find a faith you feel most comfortable with. If none, then I think you know your new faith. Never ask people which to choose, why ask others when others don't know themselves.

I think that God transcends religion. Perhaps "Be still and know that I am God" says it all. And perhaps "and the greatest of these is love" is mostly what we need to know. I wonder if sometimes, we get confused trying to find answers to questions that only God knows for sure. Now that you're removed from religion, maybe you are actually more open to really hearing and seeing God. Maybe.

No one can (or at least should) tell you what religion to follow. You should follow the religion that fits your beliefs, so you need to figure out what you believe. We can't tell you that. It may not be a quick answer. I sought for many years before figuring out what religion fit me and what I even really believed in.

Read the What Does the Bible Really Teach book from Jehovah's Witnesses and compare the scriptures in your own personal copy of the Bible. Then decide what is truth.

Evangeline, the best advice I can give to you is to cry out to God himself, in prayer! You do not need a prayer in which someone else has prayed! That was from their hearts....God wants to hear from yours!
You asked, "which religion should you follow?" Hun, ask God where He would best have you to be serving! Do not look to man for answers as mankind lets one another down! GOD will never let you down!! NEVER!
I want you to know that I will be praying for you as well. Please know that prayers are powerful, when poured out from the heart!
If you need to e-mail me...please do!
