Well I'm trying to lose some weight and have a reasonable diet..I started exercising regularly and trying to eat a little healthier...I was wondering if I have beans(pinto from a can) some tomato sauce and a couple of spices(salt, pepper, etc) would it be considered to help me lose weight, gain weight..or not make a difference at all....Any suggestions or details would be great. Thanks

Would the extra gas then help with weight gain or loss?

Beans are VERY healthy for you, high protein, high fibre, low fat, and lots of nutrients. If you prepare them yourself it is excellent diet food but beware of buying prepared chillis in cans or at restaurants because they add lots of fat and preservatives and other things that you don't want.
(Using plain canned beans is OK, but rinse the beans with fresh water a couple of times before you use them to decrease the gas effect)
P.S. - I cook with beans a lot and there is a trick to it. If you are starting with raw beans (pinto, navy, kidney, chick peas or whatever) you should boil them several times and change the water each time. This will reduce flatulence (gas) as the enzyme that causes gas is water soluble and comes out into the water.
For example, I typically boil the beans the day before I use them and let them soak overnight in the water. The next day, I change the water and then bring them to a boil again. I repeat this three times and then they're ready to use in whatever dish you want. (I also use canned beans when I'm feeling lazy)
P.P.S. - The gas is neutral to weight loss (it doesn't make any difference) its just a matter of physical and social comfort. Your body also 'gets used to' beans and your gas will decrease if you eat them regularly.

They help to lower cholesterol and high in fiber, which prevents blood sugar levels from rising too rapidly after eating. When combined with whole grains such as brown rice, pinto beans provide virtually fat-free, high quality protein, and are a good source of vitamin B1 and folate.
Canned beans are usually high in sodium. So, either find a low to non-sodium brand or use dry beans that you can soak and cook yourself.
Oh, yes, and gas.... an unpleasant side affect. Makes me think of the medley: Beans, beans, the musical fruit.....

Avoid tomato sauce, just add some olive oil,and spices. It won't hurt your diet plan.
