Yes, it does. Almost all of the growth hormones your body needs to grow properly are only secreted during sleep - therefore, if you do not get enough sleep, your height and healthy growth will be negatively affected. Also, sleeping in darkness is better for you than sleeping in light as light will also inhibit your body from producing sufficient growth hormones (a little night light is ok, as long as it is not too bright and is not shining on you). See these links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_height#Determinants_of_growth_and_height
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_development_%28biology%29
http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/body/not_tired.html
It is also important to get a lot of exercise (exercise also stimulates growth) and plenty of good nutrition (without the necessary vitamins and nutrients and protein in digestible form and in abundant quantities, you will not achieve your best possible height) and to avoid junk food which negatively affects growth (excess sugar, caffeine and phosphorous containing cola and other carbonated beverages all inhibit or even damage growth and/or screw around with your metabolism - soda is especially damaging - same for most artificial sweeteners).
So if you want to be as tall as your genetic code permits, then get at least 9 hours of sleep in a dark room (some people need 10 or 11), exercise a lot every day (any active sport such as basketball or soccer, combined with an exercise to lengthen, stretch and strengthen such as ballet, gymnastics, dance, tai chi, taekwando, pilates, etc.), avoid soda and caffeine, limit sugar and junk foods and eat lots of vegetables, fruit, protein, whole grains and water, plus a really good vitamin and mineral supplement (water flushes out your system, getting rid of toxins, helps your entire body to function better). You need to eat dairy, preferably yogurt and cheese, if you don't eat enough greens to get calcium (yes, the best calcium source is certain green vegetables) - a good natural yogurt is also great for getting the right kind of bacteria in your system for good digestion. Most commercial dairy products are bad for you as they contain too many hormones and can muck with your system - cheese and yogurt are better because generally they are fermented - however organic and hormone free is better. Avoid soy products and soy milk as these actually inhibit growth - the only exception is tempeh and miso which have been fermented to remove the growth inhibiting enzymes and hormones.
P.S. The health of your mother and even your grandparents at the time of conception and your genetic code determines the maximum height you can achieve - but your nutrition, exercise and sleep affects whether or not you achieve that maximum possible height - and the difference can be as much as 6 inches or more.

Adequate sleep keeps you healthier, which COULD make you grow more.
Also, lack of sleep has been linked to obesity and cancer.
At 11, you should be getting about 9 hours of sleep a night [ teens - 8 to 9.5 ].

Your always growing asleep or awake. Sleep does help for better growth because your body performs better if it is properly rested as does your mind. So listen to your parents when they say its bed time believe it or not its for your health. And their sanity!

Hey all you guys!!
You were all right, but you forgot about how you're suppose to get lots of hugs too.
I heard that.
More hugs and kisses and love from your family makes you grow tall.
It is because kids need to know that their parents care, and that they are appreciated.
Anyway they did a study for it. My t.v. said so.
