Hey! I'm in a situation just like yours. I'm a 17 y/o guy who weighs slightly more than 130 lbs. I've been struggling with my high metabolic rate my whole life and my weight turned for the better since I started hiring a personal training in my local gym. Just a thought, what is your basal metabolic rate?
My trainer said CALORIES is very important. Don't care about fats, carbohydrates and proteins contents. To gain weight, you just have to consume more calories than your body burns. I know counting calories is hard - so I just consume AT LEAST 3000 calories a day, which is about 1000 more than an average man would need.
I take protein shakes thrice a day - one before workout, one after workout, and one at night. But unless you are doing high intensity weight lifting, just one after workout and one before you sleep is adequate. They don't give you muscles like magic - basically it enhances muscle recovery by providing the amino acids to it.
Yes, you can exercise and gain weight. That's what I'm doing! But DO NOT DO CARDIO EXERCISES. This is so important. It makes you burn calories and lose weight instead! From your description, I presume you have fairly high BMR? I only do weight lifting. If you have to do some cardio, do it as little as possible.
Weight lifting is all you need. I'd suggest you get a personal trainer at the gym. It's expensive but it's worth the cost. He will teach you how to use all the weights correctly and help you achieve results in the shortest possible time. It's very hard to gain weight by doing weights on your own because you don't know how to use them (and following what other gym-goers are doing is a BAD idea), and you might get injured.
Good luck! You can email me if you have any questions!

Rarely people is under weight these days because plenty of food available. Assuming you are hyperactive and very high metabolic rate, doing exercises without supporting intake of calories should not help. Let you know that I am not any knowledgeable Diet expert, so you need to seek help from one who is. For myself, I would take 1 or 2 each of Cod Liver Oil Pill and Omega Oil Pills daily, and eat loads of peanuts and Cashew nuts after each meal. Make sure don't get back to over weight, that is a much bigger problem, like what I am suffering from.

im in your exact same boat my friend.
Quite literally it scary.
I've just been drinking protein shakes and doing some exercises; light weight work, push-ups, sit-ups, i started swimming once a week.
Just doing these things should help alot.
Also, don't bother with unhealthy food, more often than not eating sensible food, mostly high protein stuff, but in larger quantities is much more effective. Try eating home-made Pasta with tuna and mayonaise mixed in, and drink fruit smoothies aswell, these will help get your 5-a-day aswell as giving you the calories you need to pile on that bit of wieght.
Hope This Helps. Good luck. Fatty =P

You are 17.Many teenagers are very thin, but they put on weight automatically as they grow older. This is because teenagers have a very high metabolic rate and burn calories fast. So teenagers should not try to put on weight by eating fatty food, since it is difficult to lose this fat later.

By simply lifting weights, you are converting FAT into MUSCLE - which weighs about 2-3 times as much - which is one reason that weight training and LOSING weight (at the same time) does NOT work ;);););)

yes you can exercise and gain weight, just do some light weight lifting, some push-ups, squats, take protein bars instead of shakes, they are expensive, but work better because the shakes are liquid and most dilute in your stomach acid

I would recommend seeing a nutritionist because they can recommend healthy eating habits that would help you gain weight without gaining bad fat unhealthily.
But I would say carbs are probably the way to go, but for the healthiest stick to whole wheat and whole grain carbs for the healthiest.

my boyfriend is a football player, and ALWAYS trying to bulk up. Work out, get into a routine, and yea.. have some of those protein shakes. Maybe play a sport, and get more protein. Stay away from white flour.
