I distinguish the two differently. I can believe in something, but I do not have to put my trust (or faith) in it. For example, I believe that money can be powerful, but I do not have to put my faith in the power of money. Conversely, faith without belief is futile. Could I have faith in gravity, but believe that it's a lie?

The Lord says, Let us reason together. Before faith and belief, there must be reason. When the inner man knows through reason that something is true, then he believes and has faith. First the mind, then the reason, then belief or disbelief. God always reasons first. True faith and belief can only be in things that are true.

I think they are very similar words in meaning. Faith seems to be the trait for having confidence in something despite opposition. The nuance between the two words seems to be the presence of contrary or negative indicators. You see this beyond the religious spectrum--Edison for example spoke of a multitude of failed light bulbs as successes in showing him how not to do it. Faith thrives in opposition. Belief can be based on rational observation or vague intuition. Belief is more of an outcome.

According to me, when religious people do not have proof the revert to faith which is hope on steroids. For me believe is something that i know is true but i guess there is a fine line between believe and faith.

As they believed in Jusus, they did not need a sign ....
They had faith in Jesus so they did not give up hope.....
IF I BELIEVE IN SOMETHING and need nothing to profe it,
AND I HAVE FAITH IN IT
I BELIEVE IN YOU SO I HAVE FAITH THAT YOU CAN DO IT.
BUT IF I DON'T HAVE FAITH (trust) I CANNOT BELIEVE IN SOMETHING.
You will feel empty and you will surch for something.....again and again ....till you find it ...when it proves this what you expect, you will not lose faith anymore and you will maybe believe in it.
