Agreed, smoking dulls taste.

Also, since smelling and hence breathing in are a big part of tasting, take care of breathing problems. Take care of nasal or other allergies (consult an ENT - Ear, Nose, Throat doc - if possible), consider cleansing nose with a neti pot.

If these don't help, you may be genetically pre-disposed to less acute taste buds.

Good luck!!! =]

You can't change the number of taste buds you have, yes they die off but are replaced by the exact number. As a previous person said there are things you can do like stop smoking that helps the taste buds you have.

If you smoke, then that really takes a toll on your taste buds. Also eating spicy foods and very hot (temperature) foods will hurt them. How is your sense of smell? That would have something to do with it. Visit a doctor, they may be able to help you.

The senses of taste and smell are used together. If you have allergies or sinus trouble this could be a reason why you're not tasting things very well. Also, certain drugs/medications can affect the sense of taste. You might want to discuss your condition with your doctor. Here's an article I found on the subject.

Don't drink, smoke or eat spicy foods ... they're the main things that destroy taste buds.

But mostly it's what you're born with, unless you've had some damage to the brain. (If so, see a doctor).
