If you are a citizen of Canada, US, or Mexico and are traveling by land or sea before 31 December 2007 (to any of the three listed countries): you require proof of citizenship (which may be passport, birth certificate, and/or naturalization papers) AND photo ID (which may be passport, US or Canada driver's license, or military ID).
To enter CANADA after 01 January 2008, you will be required to have a passport regardless of citizenship OR mode of travel.
To enter the UNITED STATES by land or sea before 23 January 2008, as a citizen of Canada, US, or Mexico - you can still use the proof of citizenship AND photo ID route. Sometime between then and 01 June 2008, a passport will be the only accepted form of identification regardless of citizenship or mode of travel.

the guy above said it right.
The last time I went was in May, all we needed was our birth certificate and drivers liscence. I think starting in June, we'll need passports.
Have fun!
