I live on Long Island in NY and I was wondering if anyone knew of any specific places to purchase an Irish wolfhound, preferably a puppy but an adult would do.

I've tried petfinder but the only pure bred or mix that even slightly resembled an Irish wolfhound was somewhere in California, so that's off the list

I listed a site for a New York Irish Wolfhound breeder, and other breeders around the country. Usually breeders that are not in your area will ship the puppy to you. I only listed the link, but I would suggest that you do further research on the breeders that I provided, just to be on the safe side. Also you can try petfinder.com, link also listed in the sources.

Someone above said something about a site that ships dogs to you. These are puppy mills and backyards breeders, so beware. Any animal that is shipped is not coming from a reputable breeder and they can have a mirage of health and behavior problems. Plus, you have no real way of sending the dog back or forcing a health guarantee if you buy from breeder in California.

I didnt own it but I cared for the children of the family with one named Brutus. He was awesome dog, he was like any sight hound or courser and had an independent personality. He was more like a cat than a dog, but was fun to play with. The kids were really rough and badly behaved around him and any other dog probably would have bit them on the spot but Brutus was really good and sweet with them no matter what they did. He really was a big dog. Bigger and taller than my buddies great dane, but not as hefty or strongly built. They do get enormous and have quite a bit of wiry hair. You need to brush them alot. They can be indiffrent and hard to train so sticking with training and a good understanding of course and sight hounds are needed. They are also very suseptable to Twisted Guts. You need to feed them higher up and less at a time. Look up Twisted Gut on the internet or talk in length with your vet about this condition before getting one so you know what so look for if it happens or how to prevent it. Its how Brutus and my buddies Great Dane both died. Also they dont live real long on average 7 to 9 years. As most Giant Breeds do.
