How do I deal with this? I am in a small office of 3 people in an accounting firm. The bathroom is literally 5 feet away from my desk. Well, every morning he goes into the bathroom and goes #2. The worst thing about it is he farts really loud in the bowl and it echoes a lot. I am not even sure if he knows that we can hear it. At first it was funny but it has been going on every few days for the past 3 months. Plus where I work it stinks for like an hour and I gag sometimes.

It might seem funny but hearing it and smelling it isn't any fun. I want to tell him but I don't want to get fired because of pay disputes in the past.

How do I fix this?

Miraculously an air freshener appears in the bathroom. You can buy a reasonable one at the dollar stores. Pick one of citrus or air linen fresh as they are not too perfumy. Otherwise, you can suggest to see if the boss will add it to his supply list

If he fails to use it, just quitely go in there, spray the area and close the door.

As to the noise, I agree, turn on your radio to minimize sound if it is allowed in the workplace. A general comment to co-workers where he is in ear shot later on in the day, "Boy, I hate that bathroom, you can hear everyone's business being done in there"

You cannot ask him to stop going at work. This is not an option. Invest in a good air freshener like Neutraair or Fabreeze (sp) and get over it. If you cannot bring yourself to spray burn candles. This is not too obvious.

As for the sounds. If you are allowed to play music do so. If it is against office rules tough it out or find a new job.

Sorry, there is nothing you can do to "fix" this. It is what it is. We all don't like things about people we work with but since this is your boss, you have no recourse. If you can't deal with it, then look for another job but you could still have similar or worse issues to deal with. There is always something. So burn a scented candle or something at your desk and stop stressing over your bosses bowel movements.

The easiest solution is to get a PLUG IN air freshener. It doesn't have to be Plug-In brand or anything, but if you buy a can of air freshener as others have suggested, there is no guarantee he will use it! Just get a fabreeze type plug in, and try to ignore the noises from within.

Are you allowed to bring a can of Lysol and set it in the restroom? Christmas is a good time to start bringing the office's bathroom a continual present, (to be kept in the restroom, of course).

I'd recommend an ipod and some air freshener, and beware vultures circling the office for that hour, they get mean if approached....:-)

OMG that really sucks.... if u say something he will be so embarassed and u will 2.
Tell him you need to talk to him and that it is a very touchy subject... and that he may not even know that it is going on and then just be honest.
Whew that sucks.!!!!

Even though it is a small work station, maybe asking your smelly boss for a change in place will work. :] Good luck and Merry Stinkmas.. :P

Burn a candle and listen to music. My uncle's secratary always had a mango candly burning, and when my uncle left, she said it was to mask up his bathroom odor.

Ignore it, and buy a spray air freshener or put some potpourri on your desk. All I have to say is.......MEN!!!!! They just don't seem to be affected by such things! I would NEVER do that AT WORK!!!!!!! LOL!
