If your tattoo is dark, you will not be able to cover it up with a light color, only darker. I have seen some success with laser treatments until the tattoo is lightened and then covered, but lasering is painful and expensive. As far as size, obviously your cover up will have to be the same as or bigger than your old tattoo.

I had a black and red medium sized tattoo on my shoulder covered with a fairy with big colorful wings, and it turned out to be quite amazing. Your best bet is to go see a tattoo artist and have him/her look at the old tattoo and let you know what your options are....thats what I did.

black tattoos can be covered up... with more black. you can't cover black with pink it's just as simple as that. however many talented artists can do great coverup work so that you'd never know there was a tattoo there before the new one. i have a couple of coverups and i love them.

you need to find a kick a$$ artist, some even specialize in "reworks" or "cover ups". after looking at your tat they'll be able to tell you if it can be done.

You will have to get it lightened with laser surgery.
