Anti-theism means against religion. Religions are old superstitions that promote many of the ills of society. There are those, including myself, who are against it for this reason.
At the same time, I do recognize a lot of good that religion does. I just think it's harm to society outpaces any good it does. And that good can be fulfilled with secular organizations.

The etymology of the word comes from the Greek 'anti-' and 'theismos'. The term has had a range of applications; in secular contexts, it typically refers to direct opposition to belief in any deity, while in a theism context, it sometimes refers to opposition to a specific god or gods.
An antitheist is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as "One opposed to belief in the existence of a God." The earliest citation given for this meaning is from 1833. Furthermore, an antitheist may be opposed to belief in the existence of any god or gods, and not merely one in particular.
The concept allows a useful distinction to be made between the simple rejection of theism, atheism, and a position of antipathy or opposition towards such beliefs.
