Currently I have a 280z straight six with carbs and a Maxima 4sp automatic.

I'd like a more modern, powerful and cleaner engine, and still an overdrive auto.

I respect the various v-6s that Nissan builds but am not very knowledgeable.

Don't need turbo. 200hp would be cool. An engine that would mate the tranny that I have would be good.

Something readily available and not brutally expensive to purchase as well.

Any suggestions?

I converted a Triumph Stag to a Ford 2.8 liter V-6 out of a Mercury Capri back in 1987. That was manual trans. Modern cars mean things like engine controls and engine wiring that needs 100 or more wires to run the fuel injection and 6 coils on plug design. And the Lucas Jagger Gage's wont work with the signals the Nissan engine is sending.
What I remember was the Stag V-8 was overheating and was not powerful. It had two stromberg 1.75 carbs. Basically a Buick engine from the 60's adapted to Stag British Leyland. Stags are so rare if I was doing one I would try to keep it as stock and professionally restore it to original condition if possible then sell it quickly for a 350Z roadster or coupe. And everything you try to do with the stag will be hard to find and brutally expensive "it's British" The buick smal V-8 will bolt to the trans but very few engines will work. The Capri V-6 convert I did gave the car more power than the stock V-8
