I think that there are more Christians turned atheist / agnostic.
Just my personal opinion - no evidence to back it up.

I don't think a person can be an atheist without having first investigated religion. Its seems that once a person has turned from religion its not likely at all that they would turn back short of true spiritual intervention.
Somehow I don't think a Christian will or would ever give up their beliefs. If they just stopped believing then it would be as if they never did believe. They would only stop trying to have faith which means they weren't really Christian at all.
I also think there is a big difference between a fox hole payer and one guided by a life time of faith. All will hope for salvation when there is simply nothing else left to hope for.

the latter..more Christians are turning to be an atheist... better yet not really atheist but agnostics.
they neither believe nor affirm the existence of God.
it's not because they've completely lost the faith though...it's a combination of factors...
1. now, there is a lack of a strong church to follow... the Catholic Church is fragile, weak, outdated that it can not serve it's true purpose anymore...to preach the word of God. if it can not teach...then how will people learn?
2. people are so busy... B. being U. under. S. satan's Y.yoke.
that's a joke i keep hearing when people say they're to too busy to pray... but really people are busy trying to earn a living in this overpriced world we live in. if you don't work... how will you survive when everything is for sale? so lesser time to pray and to contemplate about religion.
3. free will. we all have free will. we had that before and we used it to choose...but now... there are other things like democracy and freedom of speech and religion. that when you actually choose like say, you chose to be a Christian...someone will always question that choice! if you chose to be an atheist, someone will question that choice too... so people get stuck in the middle...confuse and not wanting to choose either way.... thus an agnostic.

It would take some serious dumbing down for an atheist to turn Christian.
No, there are a lot more former Christians that are atheists.

There are probably more Christians turning Atheist in the US, considering that the percent of the nation that is Christian has dropped the past few years. (even if that's just 1%, that's 1% of how many million?)
I can't speak for elsewhere though, but Christian missionaries seem to be everywhere in the world. Perhaps worldwide Christianity is on a rise?

If you talk to a christian after a near-death experience, you'll see that they feel disconnected from the church theology, not disconnected with God though, I feel closer to God outside of the Church.

Well, church attendance is apparently falling, but stoppoing going to church doesn't make anyone an atheist. Probably the latter would be my guess
