There are many many Christians that are highly inteligent that have college degrees and high paying jobs. Just as there is many many uneducated Atheists. Intelligence has nothing to do with faith. I personally am never offended by what any one says ever. But I was just wondering why the Atheists are always insulting our intelect. You do not see Christians insulting yours due to your lack of belief. Your thoughts please

The weapons of disbelief are not reason. They are sarcasm and ridicule.

Personally, alot of it comes from fear and anger, in my opinion.

Because in the eyes of an Atheist, Christians believe in a land of make-believe. You have a man that rules everything, if you follow his rules, you get to join him in heaven. If you break his rules, you go to hell with the big bad Devil. There are only 10 Commandments, yet in the book of Psalms it says that there is a time to do any of those things (break the Commandments). Also, the Bible has MANY contradictory and outdated statements. Religion has been/is/and always will be corrupt. That's why there are so many different religions that believe in the same God. It all started with Catholicism and branched out from there because people didn't want to be a part of a corrupt church. Look up the Reformation Act, how the Lutherans started, or just the history of religion in general. I personally don't consider myself to be Atheist, but I was raised Christian and it never really stuck with me. I have my own beliefs because I figure that if I'm going to be wrong, it's going to be because I chose my path, not because I let someone else choose it for me.

I am a Christian as well, and sure, Atheists have said some things on Y!A that were hurtful and disrespectful towards Christians, but, unfortunately, Christians have said some nasty things back.
We need to let go of the matter. If we stop posting questions like this, the disrespectul questions will stop. If everybody stops answering the mean questions or responding to insults related to this in real life, the "bullies" will stop and give up. God did not want us to fight over religion, race, gender and so on. He wanted us to respect each other, so why don't we just forget about this whole thing?

Which christians are you talking about please ?
Bible belt ?
Catholic ?
Born-again christian ?

People listening to the pope and vatican when they say the creation was a symbol,
or people who believe that the world was created in 6days ( or that each day represent billions of years and that the bible is accurate but using symbols ? )

Intelligence, or rather, curiosity, has something to do with faith.

To believe without evidence ( as in "scientific evidence", not "I heard so" evidence, or "My heart is telling me that.." evidence ) is not good for every human occupation, except for religion ? Why ?

If a kid believe in fairy tales, fine -
if an adult still belive in fairy tales, would you not start asking question about his capacities ?

It seems the mind can turn a "blind eye" on some areas. Use reason and logic for some, and not apply the same skills in other areas. Sad.

Well,
some are trying to apply these skills to religion. None of them are convincing - they all look like superstitions made by men for various reasons ( comfort, control, ... ).
Until religious people bring forth some evidence more convincing,
you`ll meet people who think differently, and get offended.
( why? because some religious groups are trying to dumb-down the education in America - and no other religious group is complaining ????)

Not really, this person (though not very clear) makes a valid point. If you don't want to be getting into fights over religion, you can choose to word yourself better. Instead of simply saying "God doesn't exist" as if it is a fact and saying "I believe God doesn't exist" as an opinion would make conversations about religion a lot less tense and less offensive. As a result, when talking to someone who does believe in God and deciding to voice your opinion as if it is a fact rather than an opinion would be an insult to that person's intelligence and spirituality. Just as atheists don't like it when theists try to shove the idea about God being true down their throats, theists also don't enjoy it when atheists try to shove the idea that God doesn't exist down their throats. It's a two-way street, people.

They think Christians are stupid, because they say Jesus is alive when it is an historical fact he died on the cross.

So the message they preach is bound to look foolish.

Saying that when I was in college often times the ones with the very highest marks were Christians.

Normally at degree level students at best were getting 70% : but I saw and spoke with a good number of Christians who had got 90% and sometimes more. ugh!!!

They seemed to be very high acheivers.

But, I think in a word it is all down to "ignorants" would be a more appropriet answer to your question.

Once again you state that not all xtians are morons, yet all atheist like to insult xtains, sorry but some atheists insult xtians not all. And to say their are many many uneducated atheists is a lie, most high paying ceo's claim to be a religion so people get off their back, go up to Donald trump and ask him to talk about Jesus with you. They use faith as a cover, a true xtain gives up worldly possessions, treats everyone like their brother or sister, I have never seen a single xtain give a bum 5,000 bucks, yet they can give their blood brother that, sad really. And I am offended that you consider a lack of faith an intelligence issue, personally xtains who quote the bible as fact are just as moronic as atheists who call you names. Sorry but I believe that I am smarter than others because my mind isn't hindered by the constsant threat of bible retribution.

Are you kidding me? Is there a hole you have been living in? I am Agnostic, which to all the Christians that are going to try to save me means that I claim either that it is not possible to have absolute or certain knowledge of the existence or nonexistence of God or gods; or, alternatively, that while individual certainty may be possible, they personally have no knowledge. I have read things from the bible all the way to Anton Levey's writings. I have been called a plethora of things for not subscribing to your beliefs. I don't care what people believe in, let me make my choice. When I die and if I do wind up standing in front of God, I will just say why couldn't you show more proof?

Intelligence has nothing to do with brain wash.

The adult using alibis to justify his/her "child's mind" will be circular in argument while the other using a statement of reasonable facts falls on def ears.

People who haven't matured enough to let sleeping dogs lie are both guilty of insulting one another, regardless of being Christian or atheist.

As far as atheists attacking Christians? Here is a serious example the other way around!
http://www.mefeedia.com/tags/creationism/

If this link to this documentary doesn't prove that Christians are capable of insulting an entire communities intelligence, let alone threatening a nation's educational system, then your living under a mushroom!

This is the kind of garbage that wakes up educated people to the fact that there are people of power willing to contribute the the dumbing down of western culture so that we can live under a dictatorship of dumbness.

I recommend the movie "Idiocracy" to get the picture.

Because fundamentalist Christians think that they have the one "true" way...and, that all others are wrong. With that type of superiority complex, and not being willing to even acknowledge other's beliefs or ideas, sets one up for extreme criticism.

An intelligent person is always wanting to learn more, to know more, listens to others ideas and opinions in hope to gaining additional knowledge. However, the fundamentalist is unwilling to do this...they say the Bible says it, I believe it and that settles it. They go on blind faith that the words in the Bible, written by man, are infallible...eventhough, man is fallible, and no person is perfect.

Anyway, intelligent people would never close their ears and minds to other ideas, schools of thought, etc... However, the fundamentalist Christian refuses to acknowledge other ideas and schools of thought...hence the fundamentalist Christian is there considered not very bright.

some atheists insult others intelligence as a means of trying to prove that they (the atheists) are in fact the smart ones. they have to believe that they know more than the christian. think about it, if the atheists are right and their is no god, then nothing happens to anyone. but if the Christians are right and their is a god, well then all the atheists are going to hell.
