Electric (with out any power) usually has easier action & can be heard easily if you are the one playing it.
However, you can find inexpensive, yet good quality acoustic guitars, built as beginning guitars for small children far more easily than finding a small electric guitar.
I don't recomend bass. It takes more physical strength & far more finger flexibility to work. Also, bass is a different mind set than guitar.
Either way, the best bet is to take him guitar shopping & have him pick up & try and make single notes on several different kinds of guitars. It's the only way to find one that really "fits" his particular physique.
Good Luck, I hope you don't waste a couple hundred $'s for another dust collecter taking up space in a closet....

Electric is easier, however learning on Acoustic is more beneficial down the line. Initially learning on the Acoustic increases string control, neck manueverability and grip so when he moves to the Electric, it will be easier to play and his skill level will be higher.

Additionally, if money is an issue, it would be wiser to go with an Acoustic since young children are often fickle and change their favorite Disney character everyday and you won't need to purchase an amp or wires.

acoustic is cheaper....But bass guitar is the best of all.

It depends which one does he want to play?
And...Make sure hes gonna stick w/ it.
At that age you change your mind and give up on things alot.
Maybe wait a couple of years cause it takes some brain power and determination.

Or for now just buy him a toy guitar to make him feel like a real rocker.
