as we all know pitbulls was not bred for fighting (working dog's) till later on, nobody can tell me it is illigal (uk) because of its abillity to bite with great power (someone said yesterday on yahoo), when rotwhilers (strongest of jaws) have greater power in there jaws then pits. (rotwhilers were bred to guard against humans).

actually my dog is very close with kids (pitbull) and the lock jaw is a myth, the reason it looks like it has a lock jaw is because they are very determined not to let go of what ever.

the rotti were bred to guard against humans pits wer'nt that means a rotti most likely bite a kid than a pit (god forbid) there have been many attacks on people from rottis too, to be honest. i will rather run from a rotti than a pit.

my pittbull loves to play with little kids! She is the sweetest dog ever! unlike most dogs the pitbull can breath through its nose while it is holding something, so when we are tugging on something she doesn't let go because she doesn't have to! also when we are playing around and my dad flicks me i tell our pittbull to attack! The funny thing is she starts wagging her tail (that is a dangerous weapon!) and starts barking! if you say ouch or something ike that she puts her tail between her legs and tries to sit in your lap...it is the CUTTEST thing ever!

You forgot to mention that it is a Pit Bull TERRIER, and terriers are the only breeds that were bred for KILLING. Oh, and you forgot to mention how a terrier will lock it's jaws once it has bitten into its victim.
A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medicine Association in September, 2000 reports that in the 20 years studied (1979 to 1998) "Pit-bull type dogs" and Rottweilers were involved in one half of approximately 300 dog bite related fatalities in the US.
Yep. the perfect family pet.

Pitbulls were not bred for fighting other dogs but they were bred for fighting other animals (bulls). The pit was bred to not fear (notice) pain and to be able to hold onto the bulls nose and not let go. Their jaw structure is a bit different then most dogs. It is not true though that their jaws lock.
Oh and by the way, pitbull is not a breed. Many dogs fall under the pitbull category. American pitbull terrier. Staffordshire terrier. Bull terrier. These are all pitbulls.

Maybe originally they were not bred for fighting, but over the years that has changed BIG TIME !
Have you ever seen the faces or arms of any of the little kids those pit bulls have gotten ahold of ? I have, on the news. They don't let go ! Those kids have to have lots of surgery thanks to the pit bull that attacked and rrefused to let go.
Rottweilers are not bred to fight ! That makes a BIG differrence ! They don't constantly attack innocent people.
By the way, the kids do nothing to trigger the attack !! The dog initiates it !!!!
Personally, I don't care for either dog, but if I had to choose 1, I'd choose the Rottweiler. They don't attack children, who can even be their ownwers children.

Well, they mostly are/were bred for fighting, that could be something to do with it.
And what's not illegal? It is illegal to breed or import pitbulls currently in the UK - and since this ban was introduced in the early nineties, if anyone owns a pitbull it would have to be pretty darn decrepit to be legal.
I don't think it's unreasonable for people to be under the impression that pits were bred for fighting, especially in the UK where many of the pitbulls are in fact used for fighting. I have nothing against the breed personally, and neither does anyone else who actually knows about dogs. That 90s law was a disgrace.

I have shown dogs for a LONG time & I have several friends who happen to breed & show American Staffordshire Terriers - also known as Pit Bulls.
The NAME is PIT Bull. PIT - as in fighting in a dog pit.
They WERE bred to fight other dogs. Sorry, it's awful & barbaric, but that was the original purpose of the breed.
They aren't in the working group - they are in the terrier group. All terriers were bred to fight something - generally game. But Pit Bulls were bred to fight dogs.

This breed was originally used for Bull Baiting in the early 1800's.
Then used for dog fighting in 1835.
So they've been used in dog fighting rings for a long time!
They are bred to be dog aggressive - you can't breed that out of them. That's what they were created to do. Sure, training can HELP and water it down - but you can never "rid" of DA.
Never trust a Pit Bull not to fight. That's why people think they are bred for fighting because they ARE.

Because people are ignorant and get the dogs to portray an tough bad guy image. Just goes to show how stupid they are-they need a particular type of dog to feel cool or superior to others.

Because sadly, that is what a lot of people train them to do. Yes, it is VERY sad that those type of people have ruined the ENTIRE future for this breed of dog, but unfortunetly, that is what has hapened.
