Hey when you sneeze and someone says God Bless You, do you get mad or does it matter at all?

I file a lawsuit of course.

Nah, just kidding. I say 'thanks'. However, when I sneeze, I say 'excuse me', because it seems to me the polite thing to do. That usually heads off the "bless you"'s anyway.

Actually, being a Latin atheist, my family is courteous enough to say "salud" which literally means "health" but really means "I wish you good health." I often get a "God Bless You" from strangers after sneezing or doing a good deed, but I don't get mad, I just take the baby and throw out the bathwater.

I kind of laugh. As if I need their God to bless me after I sneeze. I don't get that saying at all.

Have you been listening to Dane Cook?

Dane Cook: "God bless you"
Character I hope he made up: "I'm an atheist."

I've never known any atheists like that. Dane Cook's a little douchy.

Far too trivial for me to get upset over. Most of the time, the person is only saying it out of habit anyway. I say choose your battles.

I think it's kind of funny. I mean, we know that Satan isn't trying to steal our soul. We can dispense with the "God Bless You."

So no, it doesn't bother me. Just amusing.

I say it too, although usually "bless you". Why, do Christians still believe that colds are caused by evil spirits or is that just a saying for them too?

Doesn't matter. You could just as easily say 'May Zeus grant you a long life'. A reference to one mythical character is as good as another.

I consider it a common courtesy to say "Bless you"; the "God" part just makes me feel important :)

Doesn't matter. Do people who say "Gesundheit" when you sneeze offend you?
