k so i got a tattoo dec 6th 2007

its of a hello kitty on my foot,
after he got done he just sprayed
it with water i think and didnt wrap it.
he left like 2 minutes after he cleaned up
his station, just left the tattoo shop.
maybe he had the runs or something,
i really dont know.
but my friend was getting one done
by another tattoo artist that was there
in the building. all of hers were sprayed
with rubbing alcohol and wrapped with seran wrap.

my tattoo seems like its fading outside the lines,
almost like the ink is staining around the outline.
it still is way sore when i walk.
i really dont think he did his job!

what are some suggestions on what to do?

By all means, do NOT go back to that place. A tattoo is an open wound and needs a barrier between it and the elements. You did get this about a week ago, so it will most likely still be sore and it will look faded. Also, saran wrap should not be used as a bandage. My tat guy use tefla bandages and medical tape. It was a ***** to get off, but it was a lot better than the saran wrap. The APT (Alliance of Pefessional Tattooists) outlaws the use of saran wrap in its conventions. Your tattoo artist was really unprofessional to leave the shop, unless it was closing time or break time. Also, alcohol really should not be used to clean a tattoo. With the ink looking like it is stained around the outline, that does happen with foot tattoos. I think that you should not go to that same shop. Also, you do not have grounds for a law suit. If you do need to get it touched up, go to a reputable shop and watch the artist work.

Many (MANY) tattooists do not cover their work with saran wrap, but allow it to breathe. There is no right or wrong to this, both ways are fine.

Whether it's sprayed with alcohol or not - that's just mean on the part of the artist - I know many that do and ONLY to their annoying clientele, the remainder only clean with water or greensoap. Again, totally normal.

Being that your tattoo is on your foot and not a fleshy area, you should almost expect your tattoo to be fading. If you're always in shoes and socks, it's rubbing. If you're always in flip-flops, it's exposed to sunlight all the time.

You will not truly know what your tattoo will look like until it's FULLY healed - sometimes linework can appear fuzzy or blurry because you're healing fresh skin over the area. Once fully healed, it will appear crisp again.

All in all, if you're taking care of your tattoo, it should heal fine (keep it moist, not wet, and make sure it doesn't dry out, either). The soreness takes some time to go away (hello, you just had needles running in and out of your skin 1000's of times a minute!!!). Think of it like road rash - it'll take about the same time to heal and for the pain to diminish.

And in regards to a lawsuit - honestly, even if he DID do something wrong, you probably signed a release form at the beginning of your tattoo, correct? He's no longer liable once you leave his shop and he's not liable on what happens to the work after that point.

I have only ever heard of one single lawsuit ever being won between a client and a tattooist (the info is pretty binding on those releases) and that was a result of sexual harassment, not the tattoo itself.

A lawsuit under what grounds? That would be a big waste of time... and money.. Your artist should touch your tattoo for free.. If his needles and equipement were clean and you liked the finished product. Then he did his job.. It was all up to you after that. taking care of the healing tattoo has a HUGE impact on how the colors come out.. This is simple. Stop being so paranoid about it.. If your foot hurts or is sore go have it looked at by a doctor. If you want it touched up - go and see if the artist again. Simply the seran wrap is to keep it from getting infected when its fresh. Remember keep the touch up lotioned with fragrance free lotion and were sandals.
Good Luck.

Sorry but that sounds like he did fine. Every artist seems to have their own way of dressing a new tattoo after they are done. I have had people spray it with alcohol and yet others tell me that will fade the color. I have had them wrap it in plastic wrap, paper towel, and nothing at all. None of the things that I have had done have made any of the tattoos heal differently. I am sure that you signed paperwork before you got the tattoo and that will release them for any liability at this point. A tattoo on the top of your foot will fade faster than other tattoo because of the friction with your socks and shoes. It will also hear more because of this. Just ride it out and enjoy your new tattoo.

no lawsuit. good lord. If the shop was clean, his needles were clean, and he didn't maim you, he did his job. If its fading it's because its on your foot. i also have one there. it's just a bad place to get one, constant rubbing from shoes and socks arent going to help the healing process. The seran wrap is just so you dont get that gel crap all over your clothes when you're done. it doesnt do anything to help it speed heal. If it is still sore when you walk maybe you should check w/ a doc. Make sure you didnt pick something up (if you did then you could sue!). But i really think its just because its on your foot. what should you do? go back (if its a good place) and make him touch it up (most places do that for free) and don't go back there ever again. get the rest of your tattoos somewhere else.

To all of the people that suggest going back to get it touched up I just have to say/ask why the hell anyone would want to go back to a crappy artist? Its not like you can really trust them to "fix" your tattoo now can you? I suggest talking to the manager of the tattoo shop and having a better more responsible artist touch it up, otherwise word of mouth gets around that they dont do a good job and they will lose clients. Just a thought.

your lawsuit would not stand up in court. it is your fault you got a crappy tattoo artist. you get what you pay for. also, the tattoo is on your foot, it's SUPPOSED to hurt. mine hurt for 14 days. maybe you should do research next time you get tattooed and stop contributing to america's ridiculous hypersensitive sue happy mentality. i'm sure this comment hurts your feelings.... so sue me.

When you get a fresh tattoo, your skin is irritated and needs to be wrapped up or it will cause infection. Actually, it's IMPORTANT that you have gotten it wrapped up. When you first get a tattoo, your skin is sensitive and can easily be injured or infected with anything near contact.

As far as it fading, most tattoos fade when they are done on the foot, so that is normal.

u dont have a law suit..

it just hurts because of the placement.. and the fact its still not healed all the way..

the color problem may be because its not healed.. or the ink he used.. which can be gone over and redone to fix... and if hes a good guy hed do it for free..

and none of my tattoos have ever been covered up after it.. they dont really need to be.. unless the weather conditions are bad outside or something.

You've had the tattoo for six days? Why don't you try letting it heal completely before you go off your rocker?
