They are not addictive, but some people find their depression symptoms come back when they taper off them. But this is their original symptoms coming back.

I don´t agree with the comment above that the effects wear off after 6 months to a year - I have been on them for 4 years, and there is no or very little loss of effect. They have been very good for me (Lexapro/Cipralex)

Antidepressants aren't addictive - you don't crave them if you don't take them. You do, however, experience withdrawal if you come off them too quickly - withdrawal is a set of unpleasant bodily and mind sensations that ares relieved by taking the antidepressant again. This is different from addiction though.

People can be prescribed antidepressants for years at a time, but it's doubtful that they work for that period of time. Most effects wear off after about 6 months - 1 year.

5htp works far better than prescribed antidepressants and there's no side-effects or withdrawal.

Antidepressants don't cause either a physical dependence or a psychological craving. Some people have taken them for the rest of their lives with no problems. Others take them off and on to treat recurrent depression. Modern antidepressants are considered safe and effective for long-term use, but always consult your doctor and have an annual physical whenever you are on a long-term drug.
