I once worked in a hospital newborn nursery and I have to say I saw an ugly baby once. Bless God, he was ugly. So ugly you had to love him. Like an ugly puppy or something.
People 'know' there is a God by looking at any baby, beautiful or not.

Your question is a little awkward because your initial premise involves setting physical beauty against the One-ness of G-d. Physical beauty doesn't REALLY let people know that G-d exists, since it is such a subjective trait. When a person "knows there is a G-d" from looking at something that he/she considers beautiful, it is because that person has just connected with the One-ness of G-d and has realized that He is a part of everything.

Acutally, I think the statement is referring to the miracle of a new life...not necessarily the looks of the child. Because most babies are not terribly attractive. In all honesty. They are squished and red and wrinkly. So, it can be said about the simple fact that an entire new human is on this earth, from what was once completely 'nothing' to what it is now and will become in the future.

If you see a few photos of kids with serious birth defects, you get over thinking a beautiful baby is proof of the existence of God. But just plain homely, or just plain, we never admit we see. If you can't honestly say "beautiful," you say "sweet" or "dear little one," or whatever you can say with a reasonable degree of honesty, and be sure the parents and grandparents will fill in the rest.

There is no such thing as an "ugly" baby...
It takes a developed personality in order to make a person ugly. Innocence is neither developed nor ugly.
The above "statement" relates to the miracle of LIFE.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, when the gang visit the new baby and are taken aback from how ugly the baby is.

It was hysterically funny. They gasped and gagged to stop puking!

I think the beauty isn't in the baby's face, its in the fact that its a little human. The woman just grew a human! Its a total WOW thing.

isn't the survival of a fussy ugly baby proof that God exists? Or at least the existence of blind and deaf guardian angels.
