I have this sin that has really been bothering me. I try to repent of it, but I feel like I was not sincere and therefore not forgiven. When I don't feel forgiven, I tend to sin more. I don't feel the Holy Spirit convicting me of this sin like I use to. Can this happen to a Christian? This sin has almost become daily.

My Dear the day you'll hate the sin the feeling of being forgiven will certainly overwhelm you. It appears right now you have started loving your sin secretly and befriended it.

Why do you worry about your Sin, which is bothering you?You tried to repent it, but your feeling that you were not sincere and so not forgiven is only an excuse to repeat your actions which you are enjoying it and got addicted and your mind has generated sin syndrome-of Sin and the Holy Spirit. So how the Holy spirit can help you? It is you and only you who can help yourself.
Sin is a sin ,if you think, whether he is a Christian or non-Christian. More you think of sin, this thought creates more deeper impressions into your mind and will haunt you.
Relax and keep your mind free from any thought of sin, forgiveness, Holy Spirit , confessions etc for a week. When such thoughts come immediately try thinking something very pleasant, old sweet memories ,etc, and see how it works. There is no human being without a so-called sin and he has to suffer for it- so why worry ? You are not the only one waiting for forgiveness .All will be with you.together-- but dont repeat further.

It is hard for me to comment without knowing the nature of the "sin." I do think that some Christian mindsets can be a little unrealistic at times on some issues. I don't know if your deal is one of those issues. Sometimes fully accepting that we will "miss the mark" (which is what the word "sin" actually means) is what is needed before change can come in.
Guilt is not cleansing of anything and lowers you to the point where you look so down on yourself, you repeat the behavior. This furthers the cycle. Focus on healing the origin of the "sin" not beating yourself up. And I think things will then go better for you.

I believe God can remove your guilt. If you ask for forgiveness from Him, through Jesus, He promises that you are forgiven. Whether or not you 'feel' forgiven is a strange area: I know some Christians who were so overwhelmed by the loving presence of God that they knew they were forgiven (myself included), but others have such a low opinion of themselves that they find it hard to accept such a wonderful gift. k In the end, what happens inside you when you repent is going to be very individual, and between you and God. I have found a page that describes what happens when we repent and I feel it is truth.

You need to get help from a Professional. Repentence and Forgiveness comes when a person stops sinning, promises God to not commit sin any more and keep the promise. And also worshipping Lord more often.

Because there is no penance, and no absolution.

Christ gave us the sacrament of confession because we are physical creatures in need of sacraments with substance. When you confess your sins out loud to a priest, you are more humbled (a good thing) more contrite (another good thing) and more aware of your sin. You have to do an "examination of conscience" and acknowledge your sins. You find that you are sorry...because your sins offend God. God is someone you love and you don't want to continue to hurt him.

This doesn't mean you won't sin again, but the process of confession, absolution, and penance helps to bring your sins to the front of your mind. Then when you go to do it again...you are more aware...and hopefully you can avoid the sin or if necessary the situation that puts you in a place where you want to sin.

Of course if you are not Catholic you do not have the benefit of this healing sacrament and the abundance of grace that pours through it.

Well, a lack of "Contrition" is what you're experiencing ... and contrition is the first step to getting away from being enslaved from sin/ wrongdoings/ transgressions/ things that hurt you and others.

Just like when a smoker tries to quit smoking; you sometimes have to fail before you suceed ... also, just like an alcohalic, you have to learn how to be sober ... for most correction doesn't happen at a snap of your fingars.

Try watching the movie, "The Ultamate Gift".

Yes. We loose sensitivity to the Spirit by hardening our hearts (refusing to change) according to Ephesians 4:17-19. You should repent and pray Psalm 51 out loud except for the last two verses. Let me know if I can help you further. www.thehealingbook.com

You have answered your own question...you're not "forgiven" because you haven't truly repented, since you "feel like [you were] not sincere." G-d only forgives our sins if we truly repent and as for His forgiveness.

Maybe the 'sin' feels too good. You ARE human after all. Try going to church........and pray.
