I've been researching the Hunte Corporation for a paper I'm doing in one of my classes, and while it's true that they don't do their own breeding, they purchase near a 1000 puppies a week then transport them out within 5 days to pet stores nationwide. They offer bonuses to truckers who return with "empty trailers" whether all the puppies in the trailer were actually purchased by pet stores or not- meaning the truckers are paid extra to dispose of "unwanted goods." Last year, they got a USDA violation for a mass grave of older puppies being on their property within city limits- more unwanted goods, do you think? They allow underbites of up to 1/4" on their puppies, promote "designer puppy" breeding, and will NOT restrict any AKC papers they sell to only pet quality. So, Hunte supporters, how are they ANY BETTER than the nasty breeders they MUST be buying from to get away with what they do?

You've got it -- they aren't.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say they are an abomination.

I don't believe I've read anything on this forum where someone is a "Hunte Supporter".....
Hunte is the largest dog broker in the U.S., which means they buy their puppies from breeders that they have contracts with, and in turn, sell them to pet stores. They (Hunte and their suppliers) are as unethical as they come. However, their facilities are cleaner than most hospitals and houses you will ever walk into and they have vets onsite. Doesn't mean I condone, nor will I ever, what they do.

If you want to write a truly factual paper, you need to research where the term "puppymill" actually came from and how that term is being used today by the ARs to skew the public into believing that "all breeders" (both the ethical and not) are the devil incarnate.

The sad fact of the matter is that the pet buying public is NOT always going to buy a pet from an ethical breeder. Nor will they always go to a shelter, or a breed rescue. All we can hope to do is EDUCATE on why it's important to buy from an ethical breeder.

MegB: That's very interesting....because the last I was told they proudly boasted "we are very selective in the puppies we buy"....not that that statement makes them any more ethical, they are still a disgusting bunch of peddlers.

The point I want to make clear is this: I'm as much appalled by their practices/ethics as anyone...BUT, commercial breeding is supported by the gov't, both legally and financially. I would love nothing more than to see them all put out of business, but to do so would also put an end to the ethical breeders that produce quality purebred dogs that I love. For who, or what entity, would be duly qualified to "classify" who is a commercial breeder and who is not? Who's set of ethics would such a person or entity go by?

Hunte Corp is actually worse than a city full of BYB in my opinion. If you consider the impact one truck load of Hunte "products" has on the pet population of an area, and multiply that by the number of trucks they have on the road you'll see what I mean.

They facilitate puppy millers by offering them a ready market - this means they can concentrate on breeding more puppies rather than having to waste their own time finding buyers. Closing them down (and preventing the rise of replacements) would probably have more impact on shelter numbers than mandatory spay neuter across all states.

To Animal_ :
You are mostly right, and I agree with you on all but one thing. They don't restrict their puppy buying to only USDA licensed breeders. They will buy from anyone. A cousin of mine sells her BYB peke puppies to HUNTE everytime her house pet has a litter. They just don't offer her as much per puppy as they do to USDA breeders.

I didn't believe her, so I called one time pretending to have pups for sale and they offered me 225.00 each! And I made sure to point out that I was not USDA, they told me it didn't matter. As long as I had these pups current on vaccs and gave them a kennel cough shot and a vet exam, they's take them!

i'm in the united kingdom and have never heard of them yet they appear to be a extensive pup farmer, the ingredient i got here upon magnificent once I regarded on the information superhighway internet site replaced into that they have got a link to the yank Kennel club - p.c.. a pup. Do any individuals on right here understand why the AKC enable this?

No they aren't any better. They are dog brokers. While it is true that they don't produce the puppies themselves, they purchase from puppymillers and keep them stay in business. The same as the puppymiller the only thing that matters is the bottomline.

They're not.

Edit: They are dog brokers...I've never heard of someone being a Hunte supporter. The only thing good I can say (very faint praise indeed) is the dogs come from USDA licensed breeders .. so some very minimal standards are met. They are vet checked and groomed (again, a minimal standard) and their facilities are clean and well-kept (even if their suppliers are not). These things make them very minimally better than the average puppymill... however, puppymills are their suppliers.

Editx2: Amen, Zappataz!!!

This is a company that is DESPERATELY in need of Government regulation.

I'm going to do some research and contact Humane Society U.S.

Someone needs to be in jail.

They're not any different. It's absolutely sickening that companies perform these type of practices.
