Depending on your pace, give or take some traffic lights, approximately 25 minutes. From your point on 8th Avenue to where Macy's is (34th Street & 6th Avenue) is approximately one mile...though I believe you can enter in on 7th Avenue.

A lot depends on how fast your normal walking pace is, and how crowded the streets are.

51st/8th Av St to 34th St/8th Av is 17 blocks plus walking from 8th Av to 7th Av (equvilent to 2 blocks) could take 20 to 25 minutes.

Of course if the weather is bad (snow/rain) it could take longer. Perhaps you should try taking the subway at 50th Street (C train (platform right after the turnstiles or E train (after the turnstiles- on lower level platform) to 34th St. Walk thru Penn Station from 8th Av to 7th Av. There will be an escalator right before the 7th Av subway entrance. That will leave you right across the street from Macy's. It might be worth the $2 fare.
