A cold sore is caused by the herpes virus. Pimples are caused by the staph bacteria so they are not the same at all. When you have the herpes virus in your it manifests itself as a cold sore. Usually when you are sick or stressed and your immune system is weak is when you get outbreaks. Herpes as you know is contagious so you should not kiss or share drinking/eating utensils when you have an active cold sore and no oral sex if you are sexually active.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. You don't get them with a cold, but can- No doubt you've heard of "herpes" before, but don't jump ahead of yourself. There are actually two types of herpes simplex virus, "type 1" and "type 2."
When you think of having an infection you usually assume that you were recently exposed to the germ that has caused your problem. With cold sores this is not the case. Cold sores are not a sign of a recently acquired herpes simplex infection but instead a reactivation of herpes virus particles already living in your body. Cold sores occur when latent herpes simplex virus particles, which have been lying dormant ("asleep"), become reactivated.

cold sores are spread virally. once you get a cold sore you will always have the virus and will always be susceptible to get them. they will be brought on by stress, illness, etc... it is not the same thing as a pimple. you can prevent pimples and they are not contagious.

a cold sore is caused by the varicella virus, the same one that causes chicken pox, it remains dormant in the nerve tissues for life and expresses as a cold sore, an ulceration on the lip or face.
pimples are bacterial infections associated with acne.

not the same as a pimple...it is HSV, herpes simplex virus. Once infected, you can have reoccurring cold sores for life, but don't worry, most people have been exposed to HSV and it's nothing more than a nuisance.
