My dog is a rare mix - beagle & husky - and his hairs are about 1-1/2" long. The tips (1/4") of the hairs are black and the bottom and root are white. Is this normal? I've never seen dogs with two different colors on the same hairs.

Also, he is super cute and incredibly easy to train. Can I make money off him at mixed breed dog shows?

Awww, hes cute!

Yes thats normal, its called "sable" :-) or "shaded sable" if its on the same hair.
my dogs a pomeranian, and an "orange sable".
Sable just means the tips are black. so i guess yours would be a "cream-sable" or "white sable" ...Congrats! :-P

it comes from the animal Sable, whos fur is valued very highly in the fur trade.

so unless your wanting to skin him and make a coat :-( - by all means, enter him in a show, but keep dreaming about making money!lol

Its very normal. Lots of dogs have hairs that are multi-colored.

My Melody has hairs that are light at the base, brown in the middle, then another band of light and then black at the tip.

Dog shows are an expensive hobby, not a money-maker.

he has the face of a beagle and the hair and colouring of a husky or malmute. they are part wolf so his fur is a lot simular to that breed and they can be different colors. i have a bl and white husky who has a little grey and tan in him and as a kid we raised a wolf pup who had several colors.i'm not sure about dog shows so u will have to find out more about the showing qualifacations.

Huskies are like that. We have a litter of Beagle/Husky puppies at our shelter right now...along with the mom and dad!!!!!! Not rare by any means.
You don't make money at dogs shows...you PAY money.

Your dog looks lovely. Unless you are willing to train him lots and get him into movies/adverts or the circus, I don't think you can make money off him. Wouldn't it be nice though if dogs could work to pay off vet bills? Just a thought.
