Hey everyoooone.

For my 16t birthday on two weeks, my mom said part of my gift is $2,000 towards a car, if I can match what they are giving me, which will get me a $4,000 car or truck. If I am getting anymore money, I am unaware of it :)

I know every teenager wants their beautiful lifted truck with big offroad tires, just like I do.. For me it was a little Toyota, or an older GMC Sierra (though I am willing to accept the fact that I need something with better gas milage).

For a car, my first idea was a Pontiac Grand Am, because Ive seen several of those going for 4 or 5 thousand...

I live in Alaska, so something with 4 or all wheel drive would be optimum, but gas milage is also a bonus..

Should I be looking at cars or trucks?

any suggestions for reliable good cars that I could find in the 4k price range?

No suggestions except not a Ford. I'm just not a fan, and every one I have owned has had major problems.

Just keep a few things in mind. You are looking in the $4,000 price range. But you need to be looking cheaper. There are taxes and registration fees you need to be adding in those costs to your price range. Make sure your $4000 is a drive out price.

But maybe you want to save a little more and get something nicer in a year or so. Plenty of 16 year olds don't have cars, and the added expenses of gas and insurance and maintenance. Make sure you can afford the vehicle, regardless of what you get.

if you're dead set on 4wd, go with an outback...

otherwise, trucks are decent with gas mileage now, ranger/s10/colorado etc..
