I think my mom's chihuahua is in labor right now but... The first time she was pregnant when she was in labor she had some problems so we ended up having to take her to the vet for an emergency c-section in which the puppies were still born. The vet said that she would have to have a c-section next time. Well the second time she had puppies we took her to the vet as soon as she went into labor & she had a c-section and the puppies were just fine. Well we were going to get her spayed but she ended up getting pregnant again but my mom (being very against abortion whether is a human or an animal) didn't do it (she's planning to as soon as the new puppies are weaned). Anyway but the vet's wife/assistant said that the vet just tells his customers that the dog HAS to have a c-section nextime just to be safe (especially since the first litter was still born)... anyway my question is (well my mom wanted me to ask) do I need to take her to the vet? There were no probs on the 2nd litter BTW. thx

well i think you should take her in. although most dogs do fine with labor, if your dog has already Had a c-section and the vet told you she would need to have a c-section than it is safest to go to the vet. i mean do you want to risk losing your dog, or the unborn pups. its better safe than sorry. :)

Your vet is right... Chihuahuas are quite prone to needing C-sections, becuase of their size. I don't think you should take chances with your mom's dog's life, especially since I get the impression she's been bred in back to back heat cycles... Her body may not have had time to rest, so there's a greater chance a pup might get stuck. The smart thing to do would be to take her to the vet.

Good luck, and please get her spayed...

There is absolutely no possible way on Earth anyone on here can say if this dog is in need of a caesarean!! We don't know how long she's been pregnant, how old she is, if she's even in labour for sure, how long she's been in labour for - oh, and we're not vets. Please call the vet for advice. You can ask them if a caesarean is absolutely necessary or if they're doing it as a precaution and therefore if it's necessary or not. I find it absolutely incredible that your mother is so against the destruction of unborn embyros yet she is letting an actual, living creature go through this ordeal for the third time.

Dont take any chances, its not worth risking losing your dog(Which could happen if the pups get stuck in the birth canal.) Take her to the vet, so they can at least look her over, and perhaps adminster some oxytocin to speed things up. Id take her if she was mine...

Go!!!! If the doctor says to go the next time she will need to go this time too. Just to make sure those puppies have a good chance at life I would go.
