Help!! My boyfriend is cooking me dinner for the first time-making steak- and I want to bring a bottle of wine. I live in northeast PA, so I need something that is available here. I want to like wine, but have a hard time finding something that tastes good. I prefer sweeter drinks if that helps. Thanks!!

Red wine with a steak. A steak can stand up to a nice strong red wine. Zinfandel, my child. Ye shall drink of the Zin.

I think that a softer red wine (soft tannins) would work for you and also for the steak. Softer reds could include Syrah/Shiraz (same thing), Merlot, Zinfandel, or even a Tempranillo. You might also want to check out a Cabernet Franc.

Good luck and enjoy.

Merlot is a good choice as is Zinfandel. I like a Cabernet Sauvignon with steak too.

i would probably do a zinfandel (not that pink stuff) from central coast california if you can find it. Or from Sonoma County, like Ravenswood. Or if you want to be bold and daring, try a Rioja from Spain or also a Malbec fro Argentina. If you like sweeter drinks the Zinfandel might be your best bet.

You should be fine with any of the sweeter Merlots or other mild reds.

You know, the people who work at liquor stores are usually trained to recommend appropriate wines to go with specific foods. Ask!
