You have to get the license in the state you are getting married in. Not the one you live in. NY recognizes marriages from other states. As do all states,

Since you are getting married in NY, you need to get your license in NY. Contrary to what other posters have posted, you don't have to get the license in the county you are getting married in (at least in NYS)--as long as you get it in NY is fine. Remember that there is a one day waiting period and that NYS marriage licenses are good for 60 days.

You have to fulfill the requirements for the state that you are getting married in....so New York.
My husband and I live in North Carolina, but got married in Charleston, SC. We drove down there about 6 weeks before the wedding to get our marriage license and take care of other details. You don't want to wait until the last minute, just in case you run into problems.
