Modernism in fine art starts to come up during the late 19th century and by the end of thes second world war, modernism is fading. Artists who used photographic techniques were the likes of Man Ray (surrealist), Laszlo Moholy-Nagy (abstract), Brassai, and perhaps Muybridge. Arguably Man Ray could be considered more of an influence on post-modern rather than a modernist. His techniques were consistent more with the modernists, but the style perhaps informs the flow from modern to some elements of post modern. Pure photography is a very rare thing in post-modernism, with the increasing technologies available, photography perhaps became more of a means-to-an-end, rather than being the end result itself.
