Ok all my life i was told that you do not put anything on a bible (Example: lay another book on top)
If this is so then would it be wrong to put flowers on top of the bible like Gwen Stefani did at her wedding? (The flowers were glued to it so is that wrong?)

Sounds like a tradition started to honor the book. The true honor is in living by the book. I wouldn't place judgement on another for not following the same traditions.

I've heard that old saying. I believe that old wives tale comes about because it's not as easy to reach for the Bible to read it if there are things piled on top (inaccessibility). That goes along with if you drop a Bible on the floor or ground (accidentally or not), you should kiss both the front cover and the back (respect). The other old saying is "Never let your Bible get dusty". As a child, I took it literally and dusted mine frequently. When I grew older I realized that it really means if you use and study your Bible, it won't get dusty (from sitting and not being used).

The Bible doesn't say that.

I haven't heard not to lay anything on top of a Bible in my whole life.

I HAVE heard that it's disrespectful to take pictures while the Bible is open. That's not in the Bible either. I was really tempted to take pictures, but I didn't do it.

Mark 7:7-8 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' (8) "For you set aside the commandment of God, and hold tightly to the tradition of men-the washing of pitchers and cups, and you do many other such things."

Unless you can find some scripture to back that up, then I wouldn't put to much thought into it. You were most likely told this because your family (or whomever told you) had a great deal of respect for the Bible. But to say that it is "wrong" to do so...well show me where it says that in the Bible.

The basic principle is to respect the word of YHVH. Also to give priority to the word. It would probably be better not to have done that (flower thing), but the book isn't magic, and YHVH reads the heart. (so most everyone is toast anyway, and such small things are like the dust on the balances.)

right and wrong are at odds with wholeness....

try not to think in right or wrong ways....rather....helpful....harmful etc....

the ol' time religion swears by the mystical power of bibles...pews...and other artifacts....

which is at odds with much of the old and new testament.....hello .....idols?

truly, beyond the jejune question at-hand is: What is the merit of the bible? Who made the bible? How was it made? what was it's intent? and what are the limitations of content and style or concept of the bible?

any serious devotee would unearth some of the answers to these questions if for no other reason than to hone their devotional worship or level of understanding of the purported author of the bible viz.: God.

Good luck on your spiritual journey

Never heard of it. Also never heard that it's wrong to lay anyone on top of a bible, but it can be uncomfortable.

Nope. Never. I have wondered if it is disrespectful to read it in the bathroom or leave it on the floor by my bed, but I think that it is a tool, so these are fine since they mean it actually is being used.

oh that's just a respect thing, it's not "wrong" it's just a good way to show respect. If you ask me it doesn't matter what you do to a Bible just as long as you have respect in what it stands for.
