well since it's art class ask to borrow something like a pencil or ruler (whatever goes along with the projects ur working on)....compliment him on his work and just start a conversation about art....if he seems to be getting bored talk to him about other things that go along with art...say u guys are talking about art move the subject to museums and how boring they can be them talk about what bores u then u can talk about what interests u.....u just need to find a way to go with the natural flow of the conversation and not force it. if u get the impression he doesn't like u find an excuse to walk away first say something like "damn i should really go do my work now "

I am like that too. I have awesome confidence with everything BUT that. When it comes to talking to guys I'm a mess! You just have to think of how much you like him and force yourself to talk to him. You don't have to flirt if you make it obvious enough that you like him. And even if you look really stupid and choke up, if he's a good guy then he'll appreciate you trying and maybe he'll pitch in with the flirting ;D

Just forget about the fact that he's so cute...and that you like him...just think of him as any other person and maybe lean over in art class and tell him what he's drawing/painting looks really awesome and that you really like what he's doing. Pick something specific, and try not to ask him questions that he can say 'yes' or 'no' to, try to get him to open up to you a little...ask him questions that he really has to reply to.

Talk to him like you would anyone else. Be yourself. Just because he's "special" to you, try to think he's just another guy and no big deal. He'll like you better for it too.

Your going to be nervous anyway.
So just start talking to him
once you actually get to know him
you'll feel better about it

4 me it is easier to flirt if i know he will flirt back so next time you talk to him scoot closer to him 4 at least 6 sec. then back up a step if he gets closer to you he is intrested and thats when you make your move.
