i listened to my ipod for about an hour and during that hour the volume was up almosst all the way up(i was listening to metal rock)...so it was pretty loud. when i took my earphones out, i noticed that my ears were ringing and my hearing was a bit blurred. i know that listening to music at this volume can damage the little hairs in your ear...

MY QUESTION IS:
if i sit in a quite place or sleep...can my hearning somehow improve and would the ringing go away?

The damage you do to your hearing from loud noise and loud music is permanent and cumulative. In other words the damage you've already done cannot be reversed and continuing to do this will result in further hearing damage and can eventually lead to deafness. That is why so many rock musicians are deaf. Too many years of slowly destroying their hearing.

Ringing in ears is called tinnitus. If it is going to stop it usually does within a few days. Repeated exposure to noise in which you experience ringing in your ears afterwards can lead to hearing loss. The ringing in your ears is your body telling you the noise you were around was tooooo loud. Wear ear protection to the clubs, mowing the lawn, target shooting etc. It is not worth it. If the ringing persists go to the doctor ear nose throat physician for an exam since the symptom is still rather new and also get a hearing test. I would recommend keeping an eye on your hearing and having a hearing test every two years or sooner if you symptoms change (notice change in hearing, tinnitus is louder, different pitch, etc.)

It will probably improve some eventually, like after going to a loud concert. But you may have done some permanent damage. Try not to listen so loud again; there is an option on the settings menu to set the upper level for your ipod.
