Wash potato well, dry, punch holes in skin with fork, and rub with olive oil or butter.
Place in pre-heated 400 deg, oven, (center shelf) for about 1 hour, or until soft when tested with point of sharp knife. This is for medium to large potato.
I also use a thermometer to test, around 185 deg is well done.
Also, I do not wrap in foil, but that is just a matter of personal taste.

Pick a good russet potato( firm w/ no green)
wash and dry! Poke several holes
rub w/ olive oil
Bake on rack in center of oven at 375 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until fork inserted comes out clean,
A Great suggestion I learned from a friend years back to really create great tasting baked potatoes, is to bake the potato once slightly, then stuff the potato with the ingredients you'd like inside, such as bacon and cheese on top, then bake the potato again in the oven until it’s a lovely golden*
brown color.
Enjoy!

Gas mark 9, 240°C or 475°F for at least 45 mins, but the timing depends on size and shape of potato, small and flat less, big and round more.
Before putting in the oven, prick their skin all over with a fork.
You could also save time and gas by giving them 4 mins in the mirowave, turn them over and another 4, then just put them in the oven for 15 mins if you like the skin crisp, if you don't , they'll be ready to eat straight from the microwave.
