The greatest threat is posed by Islam & Christianity, in that order.
Ever since they got going the killings have not stopped.
The greatest number of people have been killed by these two organised religions. Extremist leaders of Islam and Christianity should be put in a field and allowed to kill each other.

No. I don't agree. For a couple of reasons. Organized religion can be either good or bad. Regardless, it's not going away. That's the outdated dream of Enlightenment era intellectuals of the past. The dream of a society of purely reasonable, Vulcanoid humans that never existed and never will. I think that a number of major Western thinkers post-Kant have recognized this.
The problem with organized religion is that it's become a haven for reactionary, emotionally charged forces. Religious impulses will never go away, especially among the majority of the populace. But these impulses can be refined and sublimated and better controlled. What we need is a more refined, less crude and dangerous form of religious organization.

I agree 100%, it seems that we are evolving to 'opt out' of organised religion, it is now more of a personal belief system that we rely on to hold together the fabric of our fragile beings!

Seems reasonable.
I am guessing Arthur kept a few gems in his pocket during his hay days and pulls them out now he is getting on in years.

110%. If that were possible.
It's worth remembering the final words recorded on the 9/11 flight-data boxes - "God is Great!"

Clarke is one of the greatest geniuses alive, and we should all listen to his warning. It seems like most of the wars are over religion.

Yes.
Organized religion is divisive and the cause of most wars. Each religious zealot is convinced that his/her religion is the "right" one and spends more time preaching about it than practicing it.
