Hell is a state of mind, not a place. Hell is right here on earth for some people, like those who are suffering in some third world prison, or watching their children starve to death, or being killed by genocidal wars and having to be refugees in some tent in a desert... Hell is right here. We can change how we feel about our situation, and then it is not so much hell, but the set up for it is right here.
At the time that the bible was written, human psychology was a lot different. Those sorts of tales were to keep people under control and in fear. Remember, the bible was shaped by translators who were being paid by the politicians of that era, and the message has been very warped and twisted by those who had other designs in mind, like keeping the people in fear.
Jesus does not tell everyone they're going to hell, that is a manmade creation during the translation process because they found that they could make peopel go to church and pay money in order to avoid going to hell. The church and state were in bed together, and the USA was the first attempt to separate the two, so the idea that church and politics are not intertwined is still a very new idea, and as we all know, church and state are not as separated as they are supposed to be here in the usa...
We have a course at University Of Metaphysical Sciences that talks about the Mystical Beginnings of Christianity and has sections on how the Bible came to be, what the original version of Christianity was before the politicians got to it at http://umsonline.org/MetaphysicalDegreesCourses/BachelorsDegreeCourseDescriptions.htm#Christianity and you can read excerpts at http://www.ucmeta.org/Pages/ArticlesDirectory.htm

Its a fear tactic.
If there was no punishment then people wouldn't become Christian, Muslim etc. Heaven appeals to their vanity and sense of entitlement and Hell makes them fear punishment and causes them to behave.
Furthermore, any thinking, feeling, sensitive Christian cannot reconcile Heaven and Hell. Heaven needs an antithesis for it to mean anything. You can't have one without the other. However, this implies that there will be some people in hell, while many are living the high-life in heaven. How is a caring person supposed to enjoy hell while their neighbors are roasting in eternal torment? How will heaven really be heaven while the folks next door are screaming in the agony of infinite pain?
Heaven is a selfish desire and, with the existence of hell, an impossibility...

I keep hearing how we as mankind can't accept the punishment of Hell by God however we have no punishment that can fit the atrocities of mankind Like
*Killing all male children because Jesus is believe to have been born.
*White Slavery-Forcing Innocent Women & Girls into prostitution.
*The leadership of Hitler and the horrors against mankind.
*The shameful, hateful inhuman treatment of Aficans
And on, and on, and on.
We can't find a punishment to fit these crimes but God must be awful because he can come up with a punishment that you'll never forget.

What we can close our eyes and make something disappear, or appear, does it work this way, we don't like things but that does not make them gone, where does sin go, can people go on murdering and hurting and go unpunished, where should these people go that don't find anything wrong with what they do, How can we have Heaven and a Holy Kingdom if bad people who had no remoarse could go there, How would it co-exist, God is creating a better place for us, and the people that won't realize their wrongs and repent, cannot go there, yes there is a hell, we do not get to pick what is real and what isn't simply because we do not want it., but we get to choose that we don't want to go there, because God gave his merciful gift of His Son to us.

Some people like to believe in Heaven, for obvious reasons. Hell was invented to keep people in line, and to also support the Church. If you didn't go to church, or did something the church was agaunst, then you would go to a place where you would burn forever, and maybe shovel coal. People obviously wanted to not go to Hell, and so would support the church and be good little boys and girls for the rest of their lives.

Sorry to break it to you, but hell is real, just as Heaven is. It's not something someone can make real by thinking it, then by dismissing it make it go away. Heaven, hell, God, Jesus -- they're all real whether you choose to believe or not.

Thats a good questions! :)
I dont think that we are going to be burning in hell forever. I dont think that God will do that/ or in the matter be the consequence of people unfaithfulness.
I truly feel that death is the worst thing that can happen. thats what God told Adam and Eve will be thier consequence for disobeying God.

It doesn't exist, but a better question is what kind of "loving" god creates such a place and the actually sends people there simply because they didn't believe in him?

To scare people into being good. I say just be good for it's good rewards, not out of fear of being punished. Then one's good deeds are merely fake. Hell is a crock. Some of the worst hells are on earth. Famine, disease, war, and plague. And those can happen to anybody- good or bad.
