My best friend has been dating this guy for 7 months (she is 20, he is 26). It was the whole love at first sight thing and they are so much in love... you can just tell. However, she has been getting a lot of mixed signals lately and I just don't know what to tell her about the situation.
Apparently he has been dropping a ton of hints that he is going to ask her to marry him this Christmas. He has also apparently told some friends that he was going to and word got back to her. However, she called me this morning crying because last night he said to her "It's over a year away, but I plan on asking you to marry me. Would you say yes if I did?".
It really upset her, she was so excitied. My question is... do you think he said that to throw her off? I'm thinking maybe he found out she knew or had an idea and wants her to think it's not coming? I just don't want to say that to her and it end up not happening... so what do you think?

7 months is a little to early to be proposing. He might have just changed his mind. Anyway he probably is proposing to her.

It could be a smoke screen to throw her off. Guys are fickle. Remember we made the rules on dating and proposing.
If he knows that she knows through the grapevine then he may have said that to throw her off OR that was his proposal.
She should say yes just to play it safe. Because remember the old saying big things come in small packages and sometimes small rings come in big packages.
Tell her not to read too much into it, and to call him and tell him the answer to his question would be yes.
With that said she should be able to relax because hey it may be New Years Eve when he proposes. Isn't 2008 next year? Think about it.
